thefluffy
Hey Guys! I just got back from picking up a set of '76 LS-BBs out of Kansas City, MO. I bought them from a guy named Dave who was sweet to work with. Probably the best seller I've found on craigslist. Anyways, it was about 13 hours total trip there, testing, purchasing, and driving back home to Tinker AFB outside of OKC where I live. One of the bass units was not working when I bought them. So, I picked them up for $400. After testing, I've discovered that the k-33-e woofer is blown. So, long story short. I need some input here. Should I purchase I Klipsch replacement k-33, a Bob Crite k-33--or should I just buy a set of new Crites k-33. I don't like the idea of mismatched woofers. I know that the new Klipsch k-33-e's have different specs the than old k-33-e's. I remember off the top of my head that the FS is different on the new ones. I believe it is approx. 33 instead of 27. Also, I know that Crite's replacement woofer is more similar to the specs. But, is it similar enough? Any input would be MUCH appreciated. Since, I have never heard the new K-33-e's nor Bob Crite's replacements. I would like to do this as cheaply as possible. So, if you guys think there is nothing wrong with the mixing and matching. Please, let me know. Thanks! Daniel
bhendrix
Hi Daniel, I wish I had known you were driving by. You were three minutes from my house. I'm in Wichita and I'm pretty sure I have an extra original K-33 out of a LaScala. I found two in a box in the garage that I had forgotten about. I'll check them out later this afternoon and let you know. Email me or PM me your cell phone. Bill
Don Richard
Whatever driver option you decide on, ensure that both cabinets have the same components in them.

thefluffy
Here is a picture of the 100% functional La Scala. It needs some cleaning....

Jim Cornell
Wow That looks like an overpower issue. If the coil is out of the magnet id check the other drivers. Jim
thefluffy
Fortunately, only the one woofer was damaged. I just finished replacing the damaged woofer with a replacement woofer compliments of Bill Hendrix. My wife and I took a trip up to his place today. We both had a great time. He let us listen to his Jubilee set up. The only way to describe my response is.... WOW! I won't even get started on all the great things I have to say about the Jubilees and the way they sound in his theater room because there won't be enough room here to type it all! I originally talked to Bill about getting just 1 replacement k-33-e and I ended up with a little more than that. The attachment my help describe what else I came home with.... thefluffy
Yes, thats another set of La Scalas snuggled up next to mine! Unfortunately, they won't be staying here. They will be moving to my dad's house just outside of Little Rock in about a month. Though, I intend to make sure they are thoroughly used before that trip. Bill, I though you might get a kick out of seeing the bad woofer. Surprisingly it isn't that badly damaged. The dust cover is off of it, but no damage to the cone. Obviously, the voice coil is open. There just isn't any physical evidence that I can see. Maybe an expert could better diagnose it. I'll attach a pic for you to see it. I'll finish replacing the woofer in the second pair when I find some free time this week. It worked out nicely too. I ended up with 2 k-33-e's and 2 k-33-p's. Also, from looking at the crossover and looking at the crossover on Bob Crite's website. It looks like the networks in the second set are indeed a version of the AL. BLSamuel
Another pair of LaScalas? Congratulations! Very few (if any) have too many Klipsch. ($&@* those voices)
bhendrix
I ended up with 2 k-33-e's and 2 k-33-p's Hi Daniel, Hey, 2-e's and 2-p's!! How great is that . . . . . . Glad you made it home OK. It was really nice to meet you and Kirsten. Enjoy your new toys . . . . Bill
thefluffy
I finally picked up some more speaker wire today. I have the Lascalas and the Cornwalls running together now in a stereo set up. All I can say is wow! The cornwalls do a really great job a complimenting the Lascalas with a good low end. At the same time, the lascalas still maintain there incredibly clean mids. I'm in heaven now! Now, I am debating a new amp purchase. My amp, which shall remain unamed, badly needs replaced. It is easily the weakest link of the whole setup. I have noticed some of the older Denon 3xxx series AVRs going for good prices. A denon AVR-3806 went for $350 locally a couple days ago.I would like to find a nice amp for around $400-$600. Any input would be much appreciated on this. Thanks, Daniel
rumbling
Hello Bill, Fast forward three years. Where can a guy find a K33E square these days? I just picked up a pr of '84 LS BL. All good except I noticed a greater bass response out of one. Sure enough the K33E square is trumping the K33"R"eplacement round in the other one. Had so much fun w/ the great guy I didn/t think to take a peek. No worries or regrets. Thought I'd try to find a square vs replace both. Have a great day, Chip Rumble - Minnetonka MN

Jubilee trumps Klipschorn, and Bill is certainly a nice guy I had the fortune of meeting in Texas with Kevin Harmon and the three of us had some fun sweating and getting a little dirty assembling some KP-600 stacks. How are you doing Bill?? Roger
