  1. Sorry, local pick up only. I'll edit the post to reflect that.
  2. Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I've been active on the forum! I don't even recognize most of the names here any more. I'm living in an apartment these days and, unfortunately, need to part with my La Scalas. There is barely room for them and they're mostly just collecting dust. It's a pair of '76 La Scalas that I originally picked up back in 2009. I replaced one of the woofers with a used K-33 when I first got them. One of the woofers had a burnt voice coil. They have AA xover networks and everything else is original. They're black. Local pick up only, no shipping. I've attached some photos. I'm asking $900 for the pair. If your interested, I'm in Little Rock, AR. I'd be happy to show them to anyone interested. Edit: The speakers have been sold!!!!!! Daniel
  3. I was actually trying to connect my promedia 5.1 Ultras to two RCA plugs, one for left and one for right. I discovered that the easiest way is to use the mp3 player input jack on the volume control pod. Daniel
  4. The subject pretty much sums it up. I need to connect my Promedia 5.1s to a stereo RCA connection. Basically, I have 1 left channel rca and 1 right channel rca for outputs to the Promedia. Obviously, the Promedia 5.1s only have the three mini stereo jacks inputs. Any ideas on how to connect this? BTW, the source isn't a computer so there is no option for another sound card, etc. Thanks, Daniel
  5. So, I have a dead Promedia Ultra 5.1 set. First off, I'm getting low and The thermistor on AC/DC board is clearly burnt. I was wondering if anyone has a suitable substitute for it. The part number is SCK-048 and it is labelled TH501 on the board. I can't find that part. I can link the datasheet I found for it if you like. Also, I was wondering if anyone has a parts list for the daughter board on the AC/DC board? Thanks, Daniel
  6. [] Scary thought.... Now I just need to find me a pair of those.... EDIT: Michael, will those binding posts you linked work on Cornwalls? Daniel
  7. This sub would be terrible for HT. It is -10 db at 38 Hz! It is really designed for music. Daniel
  8. This is an awesome project! Good work!
  9. You are correct those are ports. They are part of a Bass Reflex modification for the La Scalas originally by DJK i believe. You should be able to find some info on it through the search if not, shoot me a PM and I can send you an email Bruce (Marvel) sent me about a year ago. Daniel
  10. I was introduced to the Heritage line at birth. My dad has a pair of Cornwalls. I had the privilege listening to a lot of older rock throughout my childhood on them. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I really got interested in them. I remember doing a report on speakers in the 9th grade. At the same time, my dad was purchasing some newer reference series stuff to make a HT system with his Cornwalls. My dad asked the older salesman at Custom Audio in Little Rock for some more technical info on Klipsch speakers. Little did I know, I was given what I could later find out to be excerpts of Dope from Hope! Daniel
  11. It is actually the norm for the C-70 to run hot. Mine runs pretty hot. But, I've never measured the temp on it. I think 130 F could be possible though. IIRC, I found other people with the same experience over at audiokarma. Daniel
  12. I need to put this on the calender!!! I'm afraid I may miss the 10th sadly though.... Daniel
  13. I am curious of the comparison. I don't own the m-80 but I do own two m-60s. I absolutely love them. I'm sure the m-80 won't disappoint. Daniel
  14. How do you like your new Yammie compared to the Adcom? Daniel
  15. I recently built a new HTPC with the primary concern being music. I am using Linux as the OS with XBMC as the media player. I will add another vote for FLAC. It's non-proprietary and lossless. I had a lot of issues finding a good quality sound card that worked well in Linux without using JACK. However, I am using the analog out not the digital out. There are a lot of great quality firewire sound cards as well as USB sound cards that do a great job. Unfortunately, most of them have aweful Linux support. The USB EMU-404 being a good example. It is a great card (less the headphone amp) but with terrible linux support. I saw the same issue with a lot of the M-Audio solutions. The externel M-Audio Audiophile 2496 being an example. I finally settled on a Asus Xonar Essence STX. It has a superb analog section and the C-Media based chipset has pretty good Linux support in the latest readily available Kernels as well as ALSA. The main negative with the Xonar is the lack of Hardware mixing. I spent a few month digging for info before I finally settled on this decision. I am also under the impression that for the most part.... all digital outs are equal. I know that some cards support on the fly DTS encoding and some do not. Past that, I don't think there is much to compare other than digital formats that are supported.... which I think is pretty comparable for most all sound cards. The obvious limitation is bitstreaming which is only available over HDMI. The newer AMD Video cards support bitstreaming through a built in audio chip.... but only in Windows. Hopefully you get something useful out of this. Daniel
  16. Test all driver with an ohm meter if possible. In the case of my LaScalas, one of the woofers had been blown. The prior owner managed to toast the voice coil as well. My Dad's La Scalas had an intact woofer cone with a toasted Voice Coil. You really need to check the woofers with an Ohm Meter to be safe. As far as value.... if they are really trashed on the outside.... I'd say no more than 400. Daniel
  17. Let's keep this conversation about the UMC-1 and refrain from calling each others audio setups a "Wal-Mart HT system." It is an unnecessary insult. Just agree to disagree. People have different views about the same equipment... but there is no need to be rude about it. This thread is about the UMC-1.... let's keep it about the UMC-1 and cut the nonsense.... Daniel
  18. Trey is a smart guy! The bass horn of the LaScala is really the limiting factor. It falls like a rock below 50 to 60 Hz. Good luck in your tweaking endeavors. Daniel
  19. Monoprice is the shi..... uhh, awesome! I ordered speaker wire and call new RCA interconnects from them recently. The quality of the cable is great. The RCA cables are all 75 Ohm RG-59 coax cable. Its good quality stuff for a great price. I can't buy the cheap crap at Wal Mart for what I paid monoprice for it. Not to mention their HDMI cables.... great prices there too! I would recommend them to anyone! Daniel
  20. Someone correct me if I am wrong.... but Passive Radiator designs are bass reflex designs like ported enslosures. So, PR designs are like ported designs not sealed designs. I still need to hear a pair of Forte IIs..... Daniel
  21. I was afraid this was the case. At best, this tweeter is being connected in parallel with the HF section. If that is the case, this Tweeter is being run as low as 400Hz!!!!! I would imagine it would take very little power to damage the diaphram in those tweeters at that particular frequency. The link given earlier shows a 2.2Khz to 35Khz response. It's response falls fast below about 4.5Khz. While I imagine that you definitely hear improved frequency extention, I am afraid it is not properly set up at all. I believe this particular tweeter is not a good match for the LaScala II due to the differences in sensivity. That could be corrected with xover modifications. WIth the current setup, your frequency response is hot from around 4.5 Khz to 17Khz due to having two drivers covering that spectrum. The lazy way to fix it would be to pull the wire off the original tweeter and and connect this new tweeter to it. You could then install some L-pads to attentuate the woofer and midrange drivers. With some measurements you could dial it in pretty close. But, that is a little rigged and would require good measurements to get it close. Just my 2 cents... Tweaking is always fun! Remember, when it comes down to it.... do it how you like it. Daniel
  22. We had a couple of Bogen Power Amps when I was in Iraq this summer. It is a name I am unfamiliar with... but those things sure could pump some power out. Of course these were all modern SS stuff. Nice read! Daniel
  23. Sadly no Zepplin today for me. But, I did enjoy some CCR. The LaScalas were at one point around 30 watt spikes. Ugh... someone remind me to keep it a little quiter next time!!!! It was still awesome the whole way through! [H] Daniel
