big_shooter
I have an opportunity to buy a set of HBR's in new condition with all the original paperwork. The seller is asking $600. I see some on Ebay for about 3-400 dollars. Is that a crazy price?
Daddy Dee
big shooter, The market price is pretty well reflected in Ebay listings and sales. The price at $600 would be pretty unlikely to find a buyer, IMO.
JohnA
A little high if as new with boxes and paper, a lot high if in typical eBay condition.
Groomlakearea51
That's pretty high. Figure it this way. Really nice minty pair for say, $400. Add in cost of shipping or fuel to go get them, say $50 for fuel; add in the cost of new caps, say $75 to have them done; you now have a really nice pair and have $525 in them. So $600 is a little on the "way high" side. Right now, the best Heresy "buy" is H-II's in raw birch for $300 if you can find them. Reason I would suggest that? Can be veneered for about $100, and "upgraded" to H-III components for about $575. Sell the H-II components for say, $250 and you would have a pair of "mint" H-III's for ~$725. Not a bad way to go. big_shooter
As far as replacing the caps, can I just go to any hi-fi tech to have this done? Do I need to provide any instructions to do them right or is it a pretty basic process? Thanks
Groomlakearea51
You should be able to do it yourself and save some $. Contact Bob Crites (BEC on the Forum), or bobcrites@mac.com He and his son, Michael Crites can either send you those for DIY, or can re-do them for you. The Crites are very, very good and very, very fast turn around.

big_shooter
My plan is to purchase a pair of Heresy I's locally, purchase some new caps from Bob Crites and have them professionally replaced. From what I've read online, that seems to be the way to go.
SilverSport
Here's what you do...(it is what I have done for two sets of Heresys) Buy Heresys Unscrew backs disconnect tweeter, squawker and woofer from the crossover unscrew 2 screws that hold the crossover to the inside of the cabinet safely place into box along with other crossover... Send to Bob and Michael Crites whom you have already talked to... Shortly they return your box with your crossovers updated... reverse above... enjoy Heresys for MANY years to come... ...decide if you are going to buy Bob Crites CT-125 tweeters as an upgrade...
