leslie
I got a really good deal with a KSW-12 from a neighbor who is moving out of state. Currently, I already have a KSW-12 connected to a Kenwood VR-4080 receiver. So how can I connect a second KSW-12 sub to my receiver? What cables, etc. I need to buy? I have a fairly big room. Where could I effectively put the second sub?
DrPyro
leslie- I don't know that Kenwood reciever, but i assume you have a standard RCA connector cable from the recievers Sub preout (or LFE) going to the input of KSW-12. The easy way would be to buy a splitter from Radio Shack and a short extenstion RCA cable. Then attach the splitter to the end of your current cable and attach one end to where you have it connected now on the KSW-12 and then use the extension on the other leg of the splitter and run it to the new sub. You could probably just stack the two subs together, or set them next to each other. -Dave ------------------ Home Theater This message has been edited by DrPyro on 02-19-2002 at 10:39 AM

mike stehr
Snake pit! Just kidding! Damn Seb, that Sony STR-DB 830 is just chock full of Nichicon Fine Gold Capacitors. That thing probably sounds pretty damn good. Look at the quality difference between the two units you took pics of. The Boards and the Capacitors, you can very easily tell that the STR-DB 830 is a superior unit.
justin_tx_16
hey seb, i especially like your PM 4.1 speaker stands nice rug, what kind of fur is that? my cousin floored his living room with like Llama fur... quite expensive... i would put the sub kitty-corner to the other one if you can. ------------------ -justin I am an amateur, if it is professional; ProMedia help you want email Amy or call her @ 1-888-554-5665 or for an RA# 1-888-554-5665 Klipsch Home Audio help you want, email support@klipsch.com or call @ 1-800-KLIPSCH RA# Fax Number=317-860-9140 / Parts Department Fax Number=317-860-9150 ProMedia 5.1 Placement Help s>
TheEAR
Stack the two KSW12's.If you have planty of space and can position them side by side try this too. Both stacking and side by side workd very well. Now to the serious stuff... Seb, Your system LOL Sorry I could not help mystelf... Ta moquette est un mouton ecrapouti caline de bine And the almost all SONY gear tells me you work in a store that sells mostly Sony. LOL Funny stuff, mid sized Sony boom boxes flanked my a real good sub. For the love of God change the damn speakers Seb,get RF-5's or better RF-7's and an RC-7.Then round this all up with the RF-3II's.Your SOny reciever is quite good, your sub damn fine. Its just your current speakers ...ahem how can I tell this... GET BETTER SPEAKERS Or better still go and listen to Dynaudio at Codell Audio in Montreal. They have ATI amps and Dynaudio...some Pass too just so you can hear just how good Dynes are.Even if you dont buy them take a listen, does not cost any money.I dare any mass market owner to listen to Dynes and tell me they dont sound fantastic,I dare anyone. Dont take it the wrong way Seb,your speakers(Sony)are far from the R series Klipsch, very far.. TheEAR(s) Now theears
leslie
Thanks for eveybody's help. I spent half a day figuring out the best location for my dual KSW-12. Right now I put them on both ends of my sofa. They sounded great. Again, thanks.
Seb
hey, thanks for the comments guys! didn't know people actually went to my site... the rug... well, I'd have to ask my mom. the only thing I know is that I think it's ugly, it sheds hair everywhere (including on my equipment), and it's not a good feeling to be lying on it. Ears... sorry for being on a budget here. I'm only a poor student! I know my gear is not top notch, however, the Sony receiver was probably one of the best deals for the money when I bought it (used), and all the speakers (which I bought used BEFORE working in an electronics store, BTW) came in a 500$ deal with the prologic receiver, CD player, turntable, cassette player, two fronts, center and rear center... I have under 2,000$ in my system, in Canadian dollars and including taxes, and I don't think I could've done much better than what I have. You know, I realized that before buying RF-7s and a Denon 4802, I would be well advised to save up and invest, so that I start off in life with a little money, not in the red like so many of my friends. Besides, it says in my sig, go LAUGH at my crappy HT... guess I was in for it from you, Ears! /edit/ oh, and I am of the opinion that listening to those highly touted Dynaudio would indeed cost me money, as I would probably come out of the store with a pair... having money in the bank is too tempting. must... resist... spending it all... ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection This message has been edited by Seb on 02-20-2002 at 06:30 PM
boa12
seb, good idea. invest that money in the market & u should very well have twice that in 7 years. & the prices on gear will (hopefully) stay roughly the same. so if you hold off & save you'll have more $ for a much better system & a nice house to hold it. am I actually saying this? good luck. ------------------ My Home Systems Page
Seb
7 years is a long time, I surely won't be able to hold that long. plus, I hope to move out before then! actually, my girlfriend and I have started a bet. she will put money in an account, and I will double that amount & invest it. the rest I can spend. hope she doesn't make too much money! do you think she'd consider speakers an investment, since I plan to keep them a long time? I could pass it through her as furniture or something... "yes honey, I think we NEED those 45" high coffee tables... look, we can get them in three different colors! it's hopeless. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection This message has been edited by Seb on 02-21-2002 at 01:03 AM
boa12
well seb i always considered speakers durable goods more on the consumption side, but then again looking at the current prices on the academy, cornwalls... maybe that'll fly w/ her. ------------------ My Home Systems Page
Seb
no, I was going for the reference line, seeing as our store carries them and I can get them at cost... the whole argument rests on the "am I still going to be working here in a year or two?" I don't know, that's why I at least want to get speakers right now (because the margins are so high I'd save A LOT). ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
Audio Flynn
SEB, Maybe you can grab a used pair of SB3 or 3.1 or if you are really lucky RB5s. We are pulling for you to catch a deal.
boa12
seb, i was talkin u could tell her that klipsch go up in value hence an investment. maybe even the discontinued reference models some day. never know what the future holds for true "investments". the rb-5 af mentions could be a great compromise. w/ your sub well integrated there's not going to be a big dif w/ those vs the towers. iow, u got the bass covered. i'd work on the highs/mids. ------------------ My Home Systems Page This message has been edited by boa12 on 02-21-2002 at 10:40 PM
Seb
no. I will NEVER settle for anything less (read: smaller) than the mighty RF-7s. Fell in love with them at first sight. Plus, with the markup on these babies, I can get a KILLER deal where I work. It's just my philosophy, might as well wait a bit more and get exactly what I want instead of compromising. The only thing that is really bothering me is the center channel issue. do I go with phantom, with all the practical disadvantages, or do I wait even longer for an RC-7 (it wqill not stay there forever, HornEd, if you're reading this, I will use it as front center until I buy another pair of RF-7, and then it will go to the back. in a loooong time.)? You guys are really pressuring me! I gotta advance cash to my girlfriend so that she can go to California this summer, and I need to put my 2K in RRSPs... I'll try to meet with my dad's accountant ASAP. And then I'll buy the speakers regardless of what he says. ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
TheEAR
Seb, Now get the RF-7's,what are you waiting for.Quick I know I dont regret my purchase Ifr I had the RF-7's at cost I would grab three pairs and convert one RF-7 into a RF-7C,just like HornEd converted his KLF30. Makes me think I need a larger TV first. Now go get these RF-7's. TheEAR(s) Now theears
sanchez44
just keep your priorities straight seb. balance it. sometimes a good set of speakers sounds better than your girlfriend, and speakers don't get into bad moods just kidding good luck! Seb
yo, TheEar, stop assuming everybody has your audio budget! I'm wondering... are the RF-3s much brighter than the RF-7s, especially if used with middle-of-the road receivers like my sony DB? because I could at least buy those right now, it would keep me waiting... now if only they made them in cherry for the NA market!! ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
TheEAR
Yo can you dig that... LOL I aint assuming nothin, bro. The RF-7's are inexpensive when you can get them at(ahem)cost. And even at $2000 US they are far from snooty land. I understand the student problems, when I was a student I managed to scrape just the peanuts to buy Paradigm Atom and Micro speakers, and had a Realistic 100W PC reciever with a mono VHS VCR.Damn student years TheEAR(s) Now theears This message has been edited by TheEAR on 02-26-2002 at 08:55 AM
Seb
the RF-7 are NOT inexpensive for my budget, even at cost. people all around me are calling me crazy to even consider spending that much on speakers, and that includes my workmates (tells you something about the audio salespeople's passion about their domain... depressing.) I think I might go with the RF-3s and RC-3 right now just so you people stop harassing me and then upgrade to the 7 series when I have more money (after summer?), and use the RF-3s and RC-3 as surrounds... Good idea? ------------------ http://members.fortunecity.com/sebdavid - go laugh at my crappy website/equipment http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=Sebdavid - go laugh at my puny little DVD collection
