They could have some real inexpensive EV parts, or even non-EV parts (as cabinets and drivers were sold seperately). Ad says '12 with whizzer', no mention of a tweeter. Probably the SP12B, but could be the even less expensive Michigan or Wolverine series (or non-EV as well). If you mean the others, pardon my comment.... I'm not sure the D's really compare with anything. They are about the size of Cornwalls but have a 12" vented downward firing woofer. I think they are about 96/98 db/watt? Here is a thread on AK where someone found some for sale in Austraila with pictures of them. Interestingly, the pictures are identical to a pair I found on ebay in Illinios (or was it Indiana??) The early version (mine) needed an outboard eq. Evidently later on they changed some things and you could get by without it. Their strength to me was their deep bass. I had them mated with my LaScalas (all through college....it was insane!!). The LaScalas excelled in punching you in the chest and the EV's excelled in shaking the foundation. Together (4 of them all at once mated with a 3bx and the dbx subharmonic synth) really got all the other guys in the dorm running to my room to find out what was crashing to earth. I am without a doubt a Klipsch addict but when I saw these I just loved the look. I didnt know anything about them. They came with a small tube amp which I have sold. Later I learned that they came as a DYI speaker. Buyer chose only to put the SP12B in them. They have no other speakers or crossovers in them. I have them priced below what I gave for them. Klipsch used the SP12B as the woofer in his "K-Ortho-12" speaker/crossover system. That system and the K-Ortho-15 were the two systems he offered with the "S" Shorthorn, and also sold separately for non-Klipsch cabinets. I am not aware of the -12 system being used with any other Klipsch product, even the "T" Shorthorn.http://www.hifilit.com/hifilit/Klipsch/1957m.jpg However, I have the impression that Klipsch may have either "customized" or carefully selected his E-V woofers, so it's possible it may or may not be a Klipsch SP12SB.
