Ducatiman916
The m-80 is one of the finest amps ever made by any maufacturer at any price.I used to have one in the 80's but all the speaker terminals broke off.Common on this model. So i replaced it with an mx1 in 1994.Then last year i came across a mint m-80 on ebay.I had to have it.Bought it and sold the mx1.I could not be happier. Islander
Have you tried setting the volume on the new amp at 10, or whatever wide open is? Most power amps don't even have a volume or level adjustment, so all volume adjustments are done at the pre-amp. One less resistor in the signal path may make the sound a little cleaner. The big Yamaha amps do have some clean power, don't they?

Boxx
Hey Dennie, This is an older thread... Nevertheless, the M-80 is a great amp. The meters are a real show off. I'm going to use my for an outdoor run for some speakers on my patio. That is if I ever get up the energy to do the project.
