Guys i just got an offer to buy these, 42 @ $179 each and 52 @ $279 each. Do ya'll think this is good? Also I was originally looking for the 42s but thought the 52s would be a better fit. Is there really much of a difference in the two?

Current room open 13x14 possible upgrade to 20x20 in next 2-3yrs.

42's would be great for the size of the room currently i would get the 52's especially at that price, and when you upgrade to a bigger room size will be ready for those speakers. I have rf-83's in a room not much bigger than yours, because knowing i will be moving to a bigger house soon.

Both are equally good speakers. The only difference I see is the power handling capacity and weight. Sound wise, they are almost same. Although the spec says RS-42 goes lower, I will not believe that,it goes lower because of the port-sound and not from the driver. So if you have a bigger room, go for RS-52. I have a pair of RS-42s in a 12X10 room, they sound amazingly loud even at half the maximum power.

If you want them slightly behind say (10 to 30 degrees, say 4 o'clock , mine are around 15 degrees) your seating place, they work wonderfully well, in that giving a diffused sound directly from the speaker position back and reflections from front and behind. But if you plan to place them right on your sides or right behind you, they are not the best. In that case, I would go for RB-51 or RB-61. I am not saying that they are not high quality speakers, they very much are, its just when you are sitting with both two faces away from you, you do miss a lot of sound especially high frequencies.

RS-42 and RS-52 should sound very similar, if you want something better than RS-42, go for RS-62.

I was thinking that as well but are you suggesting placing them in corners, or rather pointing at the corners of a couch? I think i need a picture...cause i'm sure i'll have to mount these on wall. Also for these should they be placed higher than ear height? I been seeing pictures of people mounting these close to the ceiling.

RS in corners is not recommended. They are designed to be slightly behind your listening area on the side walls, 1 - 3 ft above your ears. The front two speakers fire directly towards your listening area and the back to speakers reflect sound off the back wall back towards your listening area to help envelope you.

Heres a pic of my setup with RS-52's on the sides and the RB-35's on the back wall. I have since removed the RB-35's and am using a 5.1 setup.

[:|] WOW, dude that is a sweet room! Ok so i need to mount on side walls above seating. Are they actually in the middle of the room? Or are you using the front row as main seating? I only have a couch, and i may not have one side wall if the wife has her way. What do you recommend for this, tall stands? If stands, the only ones i found were like 2 ft high, that is not sufficient.

Thank you for the kind words.

Mine surrounds are located on the side wall in between the front and the back row. Below is a pic that shows the positioning better. It is a pic of my previous RS-35's before I bought the RS-52's.

My back row is pretty close to the back wall so there really isn't a good way to get speakers behind the rear seats without going with inwalls or a very thin speaker.

I don't have any recommendations for speaker stands.

I'm seriously thinking now that my side wall is not an option. In order to do that i would have to place the tv in front of a window. Which brings me to this next tidbit.

In picture 7 you have a stand over your rc62. Where can i buy that? also how big is that tv you got on there, size and weight? Just read your sig, thats a 50in sammy. Whats the weight on it? Does that stand hold up well for the tv?

I actually got the stand at my local klipsch authorized dealer, dont know the name or brand of the stand wish i could help more. I am actually looking into getting glass component style tv stand where i can fit everything without using that stand to make room for rf-83's will getting next month. The tv is a 50 inch panasonic G10 series plasma.

I upgraded from RS-42's to RS-52's. There is a slight difference in sound between the two. However, is that enough to justify the price difference? Ultimately that is up to you and your ears. My recommendation is spend the money where it counts (in the front sound stage). Btw, thats a great price for either choice!

So i ordered the 52s. Now I ran some measurements and it seems my couch is too long to fit in order to mount the speakers on side walls. Now i'm left with the task of trying to build some stands or just mount directly on wall 3 ft above and 1 ft behind couch. Does anyone have suggestions on either?

Mounting: How can i hide wires since i cant fish through wall

Stands: Are speakers a triangle? Should i build something and let the speaker sit inside or rest on a plate/wood piece? I never built anything before so advice is welcome.

One screw with drywall anchor is sufficient.

Not a lot of good options if you can't fish through the wall. Maybe flat wire and paint it the color of your walls.

Are speakers a triangle? Should i build something and let the speaker sit inside or rest on a plate/wood piece?

Yes, they are triangular in shape. If you build stands, just let them sit on the flat surface. They aren't going anywhere.

Regarding building stands, I read the manual on the 52s and it suggested mounting 5ft high. Will i be missing alot by placing on stands on side in back of couch and pointing them towards center of room? Pointing towards sitting position would send one side of sound to the back wall.

I plan on attempting a 3' stand like this, i think making this would be easier than mounting on wall and trying to conceal wires.
