Ironsave: This is a little off topic but what do you think about that Emotiva sub? Does it thump pretty good? For the money it seems like a good deal esp when they have it on sale.

I am still geeked about it. I have had the sub for a month+ now (I think) and I am still amazed at how tight it is.

I listen to a lot of metal, fast double beats; blast beats; etc..... The sub does it effortlessly. It does Geezer's Bass (Black Sabbath) closer than I've eever heard since I saw them live. A very musical (accurate musically) sub; and HT has been amazing.

It may not be the best sub out there, but I think for the money (On sale ESPECIALLY), not much can touch it.

Bang for Buck:

10

Fit and Finish:

9.3

I wish it had a walnut veneer option; this would be a 10. As it is; a little liquid gold and the wood has an irredescent quality. (Hope I spelled that right). The wood is quite beautiful; the grill is sturdy, and the woofer and amp are TIGHTLY sealed...... Overall... NICE.

Features:

9.5

Ease of Setup:

9.25

WAF Factor:

9.0

How low can it go?

9.0

I am solid at least to 24-26HZ. I feel tones lower than that without really being able to hear them....... I know I am not getting down in the teens, but definitely in the low 20s (as advertised).

Ability to piss off neighbors? YEP.

I wish they offered other finishes; would be sweet if it matched the Beloved Hereies. (Walnut).

OVERALL:

9.4 out of 10. I LOVE IT. Cannot imagine finding something better for the sale price......

Vital, thanks for asking. You have some Emotiva gear in your sig; I can confidently say they have at least continued to stay on par with most offerings they have. I know some issues exist with some components offered; but the sub is excellent the first time.

OK; Hijack over.

we r pretty old friends , but his speakers are residing 1200 kms from my place .lolz.

so we can only chat about em.

well L100s are here in a musik shop too. and they are very deep bassy sounding compared to another shopkeeper who runs his music on chorus IIs . night n day differences . but JBLs do win ones heart in short audition sessions ......

what do you say ...

I say this is the home audio equipment variant of a Jeep owner and a Land Cruiser owner arguing over who has the more capable rig while they're half a country apart, and they'll absolutely never put them on the same trail and see what's what. Same kind of masturbation, different kind of porn, and completely equal in usefulness and product.

QuadK,

I ask this respectfully....

Are you really happy with the RF3s?

I have seen several threads, and I always am left feeling like you wish your speakers sounded better........

(Several responses that changed quickly as well).

There is nothing wrong with auditioning Heritage, or RF7 mark IIs, or whatever speaker you may like.....

Used Heresies; Cornwalls; RF83s, RF82s, RF7s.... whatever.... They ALL kick arse. Heck, go listen to the JBL L100s. If they call to you, and you feel it; then make a plan on how to get a pair.

Your speakers are really good. I just get this feeling you long for something better....... On the flip side; remember... THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING BETTER...... The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Remember.... Ultimately, they are your ears. [Y]

Take Care....

Kindest Regards........

dear ironsave ,

i apprecite your keen eye on my comments , over the forum, regrding my spekers , oops ,sorry , the "a" on my mobile keyboard misses alot , its a G1 Htc , can anyone help, lolz, anywys .......

as for my speakers , they do win my heart 70 to 80% of the times ,owing to their various virtues where the excel many others that i audition . but obviously they sometimes do not shine up so well with some genre of music.

i do understnd the grass green on the other side thing ,lolz, but you know theres always this craving for better and better ones . forte 2 is one of my crush speakers , sorry i mean i hv a crush on em , and for a reason that they do sound more musical with better emphasison mid range than ref3, or even rf7s, anyhow ....

what i finalize is that for the price i paid i dont think rf3s are beatable by spekers that i come across. they r pretty powerful , clean and very desirable in looks to me. im gonna keep em till i mate em with some tubes , if i find em ...... till then ill keep bothering great fellas like you . and yes i agree , my views about my klipsch have always been going plus and minus like a wave pattern on the oscilloscope, lolz ... sorry about that . but i love klipsch .

QuadK,

I understand how you feel. I had KG 2.5s; they were great, but I wanted MORE; on occasion.... They sounded really good sometimes; sometimes really lacking......... So I get it. (It is that reason I asked you!)

Keep an eye out for the Forte IIs, or even Heresy1s. I guarantee you will be happy 95% of the time.

The 5% you are not happy it is likely it will be for lack of bass...... (Heresies)... A good sub WILL cure the issue.

Trust me. [:D]

You can find a good set of either series for around $400-$600.... (Depending)

Good Luck! You are the member who wears heart and thoughts on your sleeve (research the term) more than anyone.

I respect that!

Haha. Heart n thoughts on sleeve was a good one. A BEAUTIFUL sounding idiom. Thanks. Well, to get the best out of this forum, this is the formula for it dear, u know, to say ur true feelings about your system.

I loved the heresys the moment i heard em at a dealer. They played a yannis track. Renegade. And i love his music.i usually play his cd daily one track or two atleast, but could never reproduce the performance the heresys delivered back there. I didnt have rf3s back then.i think heresys r still more musical speakers compared to the reference line, which some critics talk of as an AV speaker, (good for movies too).

I am with you on this one Ironsave...Fwiw, I can't imagine a person who is considering investing in tube gear wouldn't upgrade his speakers first. [:|] Imo, the RF-3s are good Home Theater speakers when coupled with a center and a sub, but for 2-channel sound there are better alternatives.

Oh come on now. A CJ 5 or CJ 7 can't hold a candle to an FJ40 no matter what part of the world your standing on.

hey tkdamerica ,

plz guide me into the world of some affordable speakers , that may be much better for music listening than the RF 3s .

tubes are also not a STRAIGHT thing to purchase here in Lahore . first off ,they are not usually sold here anywhere . only music geeks keep em and they dont sell their tubes easily . most of my country folk keep solid states . perhaps hot weather discourages tubes here ,lolz.

so kindly tell of a number of brand speakers plz . i wud try auditioning n hunting em .

THe rooms and the position of both speakers and listeners in the room could be in play, but ...

In the 70s and 80s I heard several L100s and the pro JBL 4310, 4311, and 4312s (all very similar sounding speakers, the 4310 being the pro version of the L100)

  • L100 never sounded very good in the mainstream audio stores that had them set up with typical receivers
  • The 4310,11,12 sounded O.K. at Sound Genesis where they had better electronics, had good bass, but not the impact of the La Scalas they had.
  • Then I went to a studio (The Different Fur Trading Company) .. I was surprised to see 4310 s used in a control room used mainly for synthesizer. They sounded great, and really kicked ***. They had impact and power to spare. Electronics!
That series was of rather low efficiency, compared to JBL's big monitors, and a lot of Klipsch/

tkdamerica,

considering your good gear , can i ask what kinda recordings you listen too. i mean are they always premium quality, or do you sometimes play low end music recordings too, like those we get in mp3s and ipods etc .

RF7s or La scalas would easily sore your ears , i suppose , on poor recordings .they are so revealing.

like what ?

la scalas ?

sorry not enough room here ,

any others plz ?

Heresies. (3 way)

RF7s ( Is or IIs).

JBL L100s (Just Kidding). (3 way)

RF 83s (Were Top O' the line for a reason)

KLF 20s or 30s (3 way)

(Possibly) KG 5.5s but I am not sure...... More like on par.....

Not trying to rip you, with the right placement and amp/ preamp; these (RF3s) are really good. Same goes for all speakers listed.....

I have heard them all. I'll take my Heresies for the small footprint and large sound. KLFs would be next on my list...... (Might be first on my list if I could afford a set).

Good Luck.
