dougdrake
The Quartets are nice, just not as many here have them. As you know, they are part of the Quartet/Forte/Chorus trilogy. Is $400 a good deal? Depends on the condition and if they have to pay a bunch of shipping. We've seen Forte's go in that price range on Ebay recently that were in pretty good shape, it seems. If they were in nice shape, and didn't have to be shipped, that's probably a pretty good price. Doug ------------------ My System
jerohm
$350-$525, depending on condition, seems to be the going price. 'I' believe that the ones built early on exhibit better (cabinet) quality, but that is up to debate. I would, and had, no problem paying $400 for Quartets in good condition. Steve Phillips
They were $1050 new,so that would be a good price. 38Hz to 20kHz,97.5 dB@1w/1m,max output 117.5dB 1989 to 1996 was build year ------------------ Steve & Becky's HT Mondial Tech Support This message has been edited by Steve P on 04-03-2002 at 11:50 AM

Tony Reed
They sound very similar to the Heresy II's, but with improved/more bass. Tony
dougdrake
"ok, would they be the smallest in this line?" Yes, they are the smallest of the three: Quartet/Forte/Chorus. "how do you think they compare to Hersey's?" I've listened to the Heresy's right alongside the Forte and the Chorus. The Heresy is a great speaker, but I like the added bass of the Forte/Chorus, as Tony mentions. Doug ------------------ My System
jhawk92
I'll second what Tony and Doug said. I've listened to all three in this line; Quartet/Forte/Chorus. All three are great speakers, and for that price, I'd jump at the Quartets, if they are in good shape. You will be pleasantly pleased with them. I would agree, I like the Q's a bit better than the Heresy.
iwillwalk
Well he bought them, got the guy down to 375.00.Thanks just wondering, why are hersey's still made if everyone thinks that Chorus has more bass? ------------------ Main's-JVC Center-Fisher Suround's-Fisher DVD Player-Panasonic Receiver-Sony TV-Philphs 30 inch Sub-I pretend I have a 7 foot SVS tower of power like HornEd. heresy2guy
The Quartets should sound just like the Heresy IIs because the midrange and tweeters are the same, right? I know that (after looking at the specs) the Quartet's go much deeper then the Heresy IIs but their sensitivity is equal at 97.5dBs so I would have to take an educated guess and say that the Quartets are, in nutshell, Heresy IIs with bass. WMcD
The Quartets have a different midrange than the Heresy II. In the Quartet it is the tractrix midrange. Marvelous. The tweeter I've not checked out the numbers. I bought my Quartets for $400 at a local second hand audio shop. I was just window shopping waiting for a movie start time. I moved them, in boxes, the five blocks to the apartment in an overloaded shopping cart. It just started to rain in the last half block. I like them very much. One additonal issue over the Heresy II is that the Quartets are naturally floor standing and the tweeter is just a bit below seated ear level. They don't have quite the same, astounding bass as the Forte II. However, my Forte II are in corners in a smaller room. So it is not a fair comparison. Good2BHome
Cogratulations, I receintly sold a pair of very nice oiled Oak Quartets to a local individual (non-forum) for $450, so if they are nice you got a good deal! Mike

jerohm
[:S] $400 for Quartets is pretty much going rate in great condition ... ... and worth it, I might add ... "2's", ... they are some animal I am NOT familiar with!
wuzzzer
ka7niq, this thread is SEVEN YEARS OLD. It doesn't surprise me that those speakers sold for more back then. [:S]
ka7niq
OOOPS My Bad [:^)] Hey - I see you have a Samson PRO amp ?? Good for YOU ! I just picked up a GVDAudio amp from Ebay for 249.00 delivered ! It is a nice amp - quiet fans - and will drive my subwoofers BRIDGED too. My homebrew Subs are 4 ohms so the amp sees 2 ohms. I sold off one of My Ashley FET 500 amps because the GVDAudio amp is better. This is the NEW GVDAudio amp. I have a pair of the older ones but they don't like low impedances. The GVDAudio amp also sound great on my B&W Matrix 801's. NO horns Left around my house anymore - for NOW. Except a OLD Pair of Pioneer Horns. Haven't tried the amp on tthem yet ? Just wanted to tell you about a nice amp for a LOW price ?
ka7niq
LOL I was THINKING about Cornwall 2's DJK likes them. DJK also suggested the Original Forte's that I liked very much. Except they were too small LOOKING for my room. I wish to try the Cornwall 2's someday
wuzzzer
The Samson's fans are audible when nothing's playing but when I'm watching almost anything even at low volumes I can't hear it. That's with it sitting on a stand about 3 feet behind me beside my sectional. I have yet to make the CLIP light flash even though its put some incredible bass through my Ultras. The manual said that during peak output the CLIP light should illuminate just briefly. I think its a great match the the Ultras.
ka7niq
Cool ! The GVDAudio amp is something like 750 watts RMS per side into 8 ohms ! It is a VERY powerful - good sounding amplifier. ONLY once have I clipped it - and that was running a 15 hz tone from a Bass CD to my pair of 4 ohm Subwoofers. The whole room was groaning from the Bass ! I like some Pro Sound amps. Many will put some so called "high end" amplifiers to shame. Many sound like crap too! I had a Nady Pro Sound Amp once that was like nails on glass. Horn Speakers are weird. Amps that sound good on less efficient speakers can sound not so good on Horns. And Horns will reveal a NOISY amp !
