lo123
Stumbled across this on NPR website while contemplating listening to the entire Keith Richards interview. Keith can wait. http://www.npr.org/blogs/altlatino/2010/11/10/131211874/two-mexican-musicians-walk-into-an-irish-pub-that-s-not-the-opening-to-a-corny-joke-it-s-the-way-one-of-the-greatest-guitar-group-of-our-times-came-to-be-rodrigo-y-gabriela-started-out-in-mexico-city-playing-in-a-thra Killer guitar work and sound from two person group, I've not heard of them before but aparently they are well known, some limited background on the page at the link. Entire "concert" available at above link for limited time per the NPR website. Runs close to an hour, I'm up to 20 minutes and will probably enjoy the entire thing. Here's the text on the page with the video: Two Mexican musicians walk into an Irish bar... That's not the opening to a corny joke: It's the way one of the greatest guitar groups of our time came to be. Rodrigo y Gabriela started out in Mexico City, playing in a metal band called Tierra Ácida. Frustrated with the Mexican music scene, they moved to Ireland, where they played pubs and street performances. It wasn't long until their talent caught the eye of Irish guitarist Damien Rice, who invited them to join the Irish music festival Oxegen. The rest is history. Since then, they've toured the world and released several successful albums, which include breathtaking covers of Metallica's "Orion" and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." The duo's latest album is called 11:11, and on it they pay tribute to 11 musicians who have inspired them. On 11/11/10, they played a concert at a small pub in Dublin. NPR Music's Alt.Latino webcast the concert live on our blog. Watch a replay of the entire set for a limited time. As a one time very mediocre guitarist, I have to say that these two can really cook!
