andyo5
I recently upgraded my sub from a Velodyne FSR12 to a new DD-15. The DD (digital drive) series is being discounted right now, due to impending release of the DD+ line (which are higher priced, of course). The DD-15 is a better match for the big living room in our current home. It really compliments the H-IIIs that I bought last year. The system really has "balls" , to use a technical term. I found that I had to play the H-IIIs at elevated volume to break the woofers in. I got carried away one afternoon while the wife was out shopping, and I put on some live rock albums at elevated volume for a real concert feel. Afterwards, the woofers performed better even at lower levels. I am no longer thinking about Cornwalls , Choruses, or Fortes. The H-IIIs are keepers for sure. gnatnoop
that's a heck of a sub, bet it does match well with HIII's. 25+ years ago, i added a passive sub to my HII's. I didn't have the amp to handle it at the time so quickly discarded the passive. No funds at the time for any other option. Bet it does rock! Moderators dtel Posted July 6, 2011 Moderators Share Posted July 6, 2011 Heresy lll's with a good sub will give you that Holy Cow feeling for sure. That's alot of sound for a small speaker, I wonder if they ever played around with a ported heresy. I know they did for PA but was the sound not good enough ported for a normal room ? djk
The HIP was louder than a Klipschorn above about 200hz. Did I mention that it had no bass? It is possible to port the Heresy with a better woofer. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/137682/1398802.aspx#1398802 A 2 cu ft 2nd order sealed box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.18% efficient (84.55dB). A 2 cu ft 4th order vented box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.36% efficient (87.56dB). A 2 cu ft 6th order vented box with an F3 of 30hz can only be 0.90% efficient (91.54dB). As we can see, if you want lower bass you must use a less efficient woofer and re-balance the crossover network. A worthwhile change might be to a 6th order vented woofer. The Eminence 3012LF would allow for deeper bass, and handle much more power.
jpm
A good sub will provide all the low end the average Joe needs. I run a 12" HSU with my Heresy III's and couldn't be more pleased.

Moderators dtel Posted July 17, 2011 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2011 "I wonder if they ever played around with a ported heresy." I think they called it the "Forte". forte's don't have a port either, they have a passive radiator........which is, in a way, halfway between a port and sealed. Cornwall is the only real ported design (not commercial) in the heritage line, there are many ported designs in the RF and other lines. What I never could understand is a bookshelf speaker ported in the rear ? What were they thinking ?
andyo5
Maybe it was the Chorus I that was ported. The Chorus II had a 15" radiator. Come to think of it, the Forte I had a 12" passive radiator while the Forte II had a 15".
mark1101
My son is running a pair of heresys with a couple of velodyne subs and YUP it gets the job done. Lotsa thump plus a nice clean top end.
Marvel
Maybe it was the Chorus I that was ported. The original Chorus was ported. The Tangent 400 was ported and used the exact same parts as a Heresy II (including the HII crossover). If you find that model of Tangents for cheap, they would be a great purchase. Bruce
