Do your speakers sound better with grills on or grills off?

I really don't notice a diffence great enough to make me want to keep them off. I love the look of having them off but I am in a small room with people I don't trust around my speakers so I keep them on to protect them. When I get my own place they will be off.

I like my bass like I like my women, deep and tight.

Well, I can tell you this much. I know for a FACT that they sound better with them on if you are me. Why you ask? Becuase I have two little ones running around and I guarantee you if not for the covers, there would be crayon scribbles, as well as Buzz Lightyear weapon impressions dented into the cones. And then there would be a daddy hand print impression on their little butts.cwm4.gif

So ya, make no mistake about it, they sound better with the grills on. cwm30.gif

Maybe it just mental for me, but I think that they sound better with the grills off. I have the KLF 30s and it's something about seeing the dual 12s, horns and tweeters that enhances the sound. Like Moon, I have little ones around the house, so the grills only come off when they are tucked away in their beds asleep.

I've cleaned enough stains and hand prints off the grills already. My 2-year old daughter and I have had several run-ins about her hitting and pressing the grills. Not to mention the hole at the top of the speakers that's a great place to drop small objects.

I think this is in the realm of Phsycoacoustics. The grill is supposedly acosticly transparent. It seems to my ears that removing the grill lifts a veil off the music. I would like to know from someone at the factory if the speakers responce is measured with or without grills. LaScalas-none, My Heresys Have grills aas does my RC-3.
