Do I need speaker stands for my new Cornwall III's?

Recommended Posts

I have a very nice pair of custom made anchor sound speaker stands that will raise the Cornwall III's 23". Is this preferable to just placing them on the hardwood floor?

Unless you have a sub, I would keep them on the floor. Raising them will cause a loss of bass.

Thanks for the response. I do have a rather large pro sub made by JTR which has two 18" drivers with an internal 4000 watt amp. So I have plenty of bass, just thought that raising the horn to ear level might be beneficial.

I would agree here...

generally you want to have your ear at horn level when you are seated. I usually target the mid horn for this position so the centre of my mid horns are usually about 38" - 40" up off the floor. I have found that the improvement in stage and image is well worth the effort. Hope this helps, best regards Moray James.

I have raised both La Scalas and Fortes off the floor. Getting the tweeters up to ear level was a great improvement for both. As far as bass goes, for the Fortes there was a little loss in bass but I also thought it was a little cleaner, for the La Scalas I did not detect any loss in bass. I would give it a try, though 23 inches seems like quite a rise. I only brought my La Scalas up 6 inches.

The question is about controlling the bass response of Klipsch Cornwall’s naturally without equalizer? Yes, put them up on speaker stands

And it was also asked over 8 years ago.

23" seems risky for 100# speakers that were meant to be on floor.  Maybe 4-6 inches but not nearly 2 feet.
