gsantosoliver
Greetings from Brazil! I have recently got a pair of RF 52ii. I am going to use the Denon 3311 as the power unit. So my question to you: Is it worthy to bi-amp the speakers instead of using the common approach to connect the speakers (using just one cable and that jumper provided in the speaker itself)? Thank you! Gilson
Moderators Youthman Posted August 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2012 Welcome to the forums. I personally did not hear any difference when I tried it with my RF-83's. Some suggest unless you bypass the crossovers in the speakers and use an active crossover, it's not worth it.
Moderators Youthman Posted August 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2012 You can always try it for yourself. All it will cost you are two extra speaker wires.
gsantosoliver
The problem and in fact, the main reason why I ask, is that, as everything else here in Brazil, quality speakers cable cost a huge deal of money. So I wanted make sure that "bi-amping" would really worth the investment beforehand. Thanks for your reply.
Moderators Youthman Posted August 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2012 I gotcha. If it's going to be expensive, I would venture to say it totally isn't worth it. I purchase all my cables from Monoprice.com. Not sure if they ship to Brazil.
babadono
Are we talking about bi amping (active crossover before seperate amps) or bi wiring (seperate wires from same amp to different drivers in speaker)? babadono
gsantosoliver
well, in the denon 3311 user's manual and on several webpages say that I can redirect the power from those unused rear surround channels to use in combination with the power from my front two channel which would give me four dedicated amplifier channels to drive a single pair of left and right front speakers. And they call it bi-amp. Bi-amp: http://resim.donanimhaber.com/upfiles/622033/BFB691686AB04225A0DFEC2CAA524B2E.jpg Bi-wire would be something link this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_I9Y_JNBdKLM/SwJXsDps1wI/AAAAAAAAADM/xdYlT_lPGbw/s1600/biwire.jpg So my question is in regards the bi-amp versus using only the front left and right channels to connect the front speakers
Heritage_Head
I would agree with youth. I messed with that a little with my old speakers and heard no difference. Granted I didn’t bypass the crossover so I guess some might say I didn’t do it right. Nothing wrong with trying though. You can use cheap wire like even a power cord on something like a broken toaster would work just to try it. []
Moderators dtel Posted August 15, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2012 Been to Brazil, skip the bi-wire thing and use the $ to go out on your #2 rated reef in the world, [ip] or some of this,(pic) it will make your speakers sound better. derrickdj1
There may be a slight impovement depending on how the avr handels the signal. You may also elimanate some of the interference at the xo. There is no objective data that passive bi-amping is beneficial. Give it a try and decide for yourself.
