Recomend me a good projection setup

DVois

Recommended Posts

I just received a 96 inch DRAPER pull down screen and now I am looking for a nice Projestion system to use it with. I am not familiar with projection and don't really know where to start my quest for a resonable priced and good looking system. I have between $1500 and $2500 to spend. All I use is DTV and my H/K DVD 50 for viewing movies and TV.

Thanks,

Doug

Runco is excellent, Yamaha does not actually make their DLP projectors.

Sony has a nice one (such as the Sony VHT10/11)

Sharp XV-Z9000U

DWIN TransVision2

Yamaha

Runco

now, not in that order, but those are all great ones. not cheap though, all but the sony are DLP, which I prefer above LCD which is what the sony i listed was, but sony has non LCD projectors. The yamaha DLP projector should be going pretty cheap soon if not now since they are not making any more of it, nothing wrong with it, but a new one will come out soon, hopefully.

Try the Piano 3100 or the Plus 810Z for DLP. At 3 lbs a sweet unit by The Lightware\Plus Corporation out of Japan, the no#1 DLP manufacturer in Japan. They have been in business for 4 yrs and have 1.5 "bil" of revenue....OUCH...The Infocus is nice, oh yeah, as well, the Sim2 out of Italy is awesome, but starting at 9K(CDN) for the Infocus and 15K+ to start(5 models)for the Sim2. When a 65" TW RPTV goes for 6K, hellloooo...

LCD is history, CRT will be around for awhile.

A recent review pitted the Piano(3K) against the 12K Sharp, guess who won.......

You want a quality DLP Projector for bang for your buck, check out the Plus.

DVois,

I just purchased an Infocus LP350 brand new in the box off a guy on Ebay for $2500 U.S. I should be getting it in about a week.

I also just purchased a Draper Premier power screen 96" x 72", which I should also get in about a week.

I'll let you know how it is when I get it set-up.

For just over $4,000 you can get a Sanyo PLV-60/Studio Experience SE-13HD LCD with native 16:9 panels. I own the SE-13HD and use a 52" x 92" (106"D) screen with it and the picture is simply stunning. I compared with the Sharp Z9000/DLP, Yamaha DPX-1(DLP) and the Sony 11HT(LCD) and the DLP's were a little better but no way worth paying $5-6K more (Retail is around $9-10K for Sharp and Yamaha).

Just make sure that you do your homework on the native resolution and what you will be using it for (DVD's, Cable, Satellite, Games) and how much ambient light in the room.

I love my SE-13HD, check out the AVSforum.com for more info on projectors or studioexperience.com

Good luck.
