I'm going to be moving a pair of my 83's for rear surround in a 7.1 setup And I was wondering if there is a certain distance behind the seating that is best and how far apart The speakers are? Or doesn't it matter because audessy will take care of that Thx for your help John

Some recommendation are for the two SB speakers to be close together similar for a 6.1 setup. I have used them far apart and my Pioneer adjusted everything very well. Due to my room, the close together option was not possible. You can try both but, I found that since SB give spatial clues, that further apart was nice and added to the surround effects. You have a nice system by the way![8-|]

Distance from LP and other speakers is the key for FW, FH and SB speakers since the effects have a spatial consideration for optimal reproduction and imaging. This avoid the sound field congestion and makes the panning effect better. The great thing with the RF 83;s as SB will be the bass effects!

Man that's a lot of speaker for such minimally used channels. Do you cut all your stuff off at 80? I bet once you move those back and spread you actual left and right speaker out further you will love your front soundstage more than ever!

According to the manual for my Yamaha receiver, in a 7.1 system the surround rear speakers should be at least 1 foot apart. IIRC, the maximum recommended distance apart was the same as the distance between the front main speakers.
