willland
I have for sale a Cambridge Audio 840C. I own two of these and have owned a total of three. They are incredible pieces whether you use it as a CD player, a DAC, or a transport. This particular 840C can only be used as a digital CD transport or as a CD player in mono mode. The DAC module needs repaired or replaced($$$). It only operates in mono through the analog outputs. As a digital transport with an outboard DAC or preamp/DAC, it performs wonderfully. If the new owner chooses to have the DAC module replaced, it is not a cheap fix. I sent the 840C to an authorized CA repair facility(Bammel TV) in Houston, TX to have it diagnosed and they quoted me around $750.00 for the module replacement and shipping from Canada. If the new owner is tech savvy, then maybe the DAC can be repaired instead of replaced, but I can't say that for certain. It may be possible to contact another Cambridge Audio repair facility and maybe get a better quote. Let me state this also, a fully functional CA 840C is a wonderful CD player/DAC/transport that is worth repairing and I would have no problem having the repair done myself if I did not already own another one. For the record, the msrp on the 840C was $1499.00 in 2008 and consistently sells on the used market for $575.00 to $900.00. The price of $225.00 includes insane packing, manual, power cord, and remote. Pick up a new Cambridge Audio DacMagic100 for $299.00 and you won't miss a beat. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_779DAC100B/Cambridge-Audio-DacMagic-100-Black.html?tp=59309&awkw=38126502985&awat=pla&awnw=g&awcr=12970872985&awdv=c Combine the Cambridge Audio 840C with my Cambridge Audio 540A(see separate ad), and get them both shipped for $500.00. Thanks for looking, Bill Edited February 15, 2014 by willland
finallygotmyheresies
Do the digital inputs still work or do you only get mono sound while playing cd's? I could use this as a mono source for my single khorn.
