JJkizak Posted May 31, 2014 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Amazon.com has the biggest selection Iv'e seen. I believe (maybe) they refer to it as "UHD-2" (4K) whereas 1080P/Bluray is "UHD-1" (2K). It is a fledgling technology right now, so it is still trying to catch traction. In all reality though, there wont be a noticeable difference if you sit more than 8 feet from your tv. The human eye cannot differentiate the pixels of 1080p at 8-10 feet so smaller pixels will not increase the sharpness of the television. To get the same effect that larger screens benefited from 1080p over the standard definition, the television would need to be somewhere around 200". The only real benefit to having 4k right now is for the passive 3d features. With passive 3D, the television effectively cuts its resolution in half. Every other line of pixels on the television is perceived by the right or left eye and this produces the 3D image. Active 3D (the better technology in my opinion) works by shuttering the glasses at high speeds (left then right then left then right) to give you the perception of 3D. The only downside to this is it dims the image a bit. I am torn by which TV to get right now. The local best buy has the 55" sonys from last year with the premium sound for about $2400 NIB and 2200 for the floor model. I would love 4k, but the more I read on the subject, it really doesn't matter for what I need it for. I am also looking at a 60" sharp Q+ that looks gorgeous as well as a Samsung 7150 65" model. For around $2000 both TVs offer a crisp image and have active 3D. In a nut shell though, unless your sitting like 4 feet from your TV, you will not see the benefits of 4k over 1080p. Perhaps someday humans can be retrofitted with hawk eyes... and then we will need 400k tv 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Porn_Star Posted May 31, 2014 Author Share Posted May 31, 2014 I have the un65f9000 and I love the tv. the last tv I had was un55c6000 which will be going in the garage soon. I like the 4k resolution on my pc, I have streamed some 4k video from Netflix, but id like to watch whole movies and what not. what 4k disks are you talking about? what do you use to play them? ps3 (which I have) and the ps4, as far as I understand it, do not support 4k resolution. sonys media server that streams 4k is only compatible with sony tvs. I am a fan of Samsung though. I had a tech come out to my house to recalibrate my Kuro. I believe he goes by umr at the avsforum (Accucal) It's been 6 or 7 years since he's been out and some of the colors had shifted slightly over time. He does a lot of high end calibration all over the country and has been doing so for years. He said that the 4k displays of less than 60" had a very noticeable clarity advantage from across the room over the 1080 stuff. The larger ones even more so. It actually surprised him as well. He said that they truly give the "looking through the window" effect. I value his opinion as someone with no dog in the fight.
