Just ordered a Visiontek GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB.

I have a Matrox G450 now, and am getting sick of playing games a 5 FPS, so I took matters into my own hands and ordered a (see title of post) online.

There were other cards with a slight preformance advantage, but the Visiontek is VERY hi-qiality (look at its capacitors, they are about 5X more expensive than normal ones) and has a lifetime warranty. Also, they are a big company and I will be able to get support if I need it, like drivers and warranty usage.

Well, I am going from playing games on a 2D card to a GeForce4, so I think I will be happy.

Well, I have a geForce3 TI200 and get around 7-25 fps in Half-Life, just so you know. It seems as though nVidia cards had some problems with older VIA chipsets.... and you aresupposed to update the 4 in 1 druvers to fix this. BUT when i even try to update my videocard drivers, i get more system lockups than anything. So I am not even gonna try motherboard drivers....

BTW, if you haven't read reviews, the ATI Radeon 9700 is blowing everything nVidia has to offer right now.

First, the 9700 is out of my price range. Which leaves the 9000, which my GeForce4 is on par with.

I like nVidia more, and I need a nVidia chipset to do some mods to (to turn it into a Quatro), which will be a 20% boost in preformance.

Also, this card is the standard, its mature as hell and I will trust it.

Yes, the 9700 is blowing the $hit out of the Ti4600, I know, and I will not try to discredit that.

ATI just isn't the card for me, OK? Smile.gif

I thought they did to until i saw the 9700. Even with ATI's terrible beta drivers it still outperforms the GF4TI4600 by a large margin. Even if you hate ATI you have to admit the 9700 is a better card. Even in a benchmark that was made for nvidia cards the 9700 doubled the GF4's scores.

mobile homeless, I e-mailed you at 5:45 PM your time.

Let me know, its a GREAT card!

------------------------------------------------------

Now for ATI, well, it's ATI.

If Hyundi had a car that came out and everyone was raving about it, I still wouldn't be interested, why? Because it isn't worth the risk, I mean, ATI may have gotten lucky this time, but how will the drivers age?

Again, the ATI is a great card, but I have MUCH more trust in nVidia.

By the way, my Ti4200 is SWEET+

Hey Kenratboy,

I am surprised that you call 37% - 40% faster benchmarks WITH BETA DRIVERS getting lucky. I have used ATI cards with Intel motherboards for years. NEVER once did I run into a problem with Doom, Unreal, Half-Life or any other other demanding games. But to be fair, I have read of people having problems when they use chipsets other than Intel. I am waiting on the new 9700 card.

To me, nVidia is to ATI as AMD is to Intel, always trying to be a bit faster and less expensive (cheaper). I did hardware evals for years for a major (read fortune 50 company) so I got to play with quite a bit of stuff. Give me Microsoft, Dell, Intel, ATI, HP for printers. They are companies that listen to their customer base. Sure, they may cost a bit more upfront, but the gains are in fewer problems and less need for "fixes".

It IS good to see other's opinions though. cwm1.gif

First, AMD and nVidia are bussom buddies. ******* of each other if you will. Like the nForce MB chipset.

Second, AMD has the reputation as the enthusiasts CPU.

Third, AMD takes better care of their customers, hence the AMD psoters and stickers I have from AMD, and NOT Intel.

Fourth, For equivilant preformance (BENCHMARKS), AMD is a LOT cheaper than Intel, especially if you add in the extra cost of RDRAM compared to DDR.

Fifth:

AMD - Sledghammer, 64-bit

Intel - Canceled 64-bit project

nVidia - GeForce5 in a few months

ATI - Living large, until a few months from now...
