MichaelandKlipsch Posted September 1, 2014 Share Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Well, after looking and thinking for the past 3 days I decided to make a change. I relieved the new JTR captivator s2 subwoofers and decided I would like to have both subs and all 3 KL-650's behind an AT screen. In going to hire a small project contractor to build a recessed shelf on my main wall 8'w x 4'h x 2'd. I'm going to put both sealed subs in there and ten mount each kl-650 in there using my omnimounts. I did some math a f decided to go with a Seymour center stage xd screen at 162". I'm thinking that since I'm going to use a anamorphic lens now the curved 2.37:1 screen would be best. Thoughts ideas I'm all ears. I'm goin to remove my 3 kl-650's from the brackets today and also remove my Stewart screen and tape out the are the new screen will go as well as where te recessed shelf will be. I guess I just it used to how the room looked without the big Subs taking up floor space and want all my speakers out of sight now and in the best place for them behind a screen. Ill take some additional photos tonight before I begin then photos after the recessed held is in and when I order te new screen. If I were you I'd make the cove about a foot less in width than that new screen. So your mains can be as wife as possible behind there. And while your at it just go ahead and order he cinema lcr! MichaelandKlipsch Posted September 1, 2014 Author Share Posted September 1, 2014 Ok i have finished the first portion and removed the KL650s and patched up where the ominmout brackets were. I clewed all3 LCRs and covered them and the S2's with plastic. After the spackle is dry ill sand and put an whole coat of pain on the angled ceiling to make it even. Next up i plan to remove the Stewart film screen and have the new recessed alcove/shelf taped out as well as the size of the new screen taped out to get an idea. i'l photo graph that as well. Then if all goes well i plan to have the shelf framed and built next Saturday. I'll photograph each step as it happens. I want as much info from you guys as i can get. I'm not sure exactly how the curved screen monte to the wall and i need to find out before cutting anything. I know I'm going with a Seymour XD curved 162" screen that is a 2.37:1 ratio to pair up with the anamorphic lens. Anyone know the dimensions of the bracket on the back and how much room i will have to play with? i will attached photos below of the room in new project mode as well as the area/wall behind the main wall in the attic space to give an idea. i have plenty of room to go 2' deep. P.S. I took a tape measure for accurate room dimensions. My head is exactly 13.3' from the front of the screen. The back wall is 14' from the screen and the projector back in it's recessed alcove is 16.4' from the front of the lens to the from tot the screen. i can move it back if i need to. Not today of course with a heat index of 109F. I here Charleston is like a larger Savannah, which I love to visit. I'd think you would have to start looking back and forth. You gonna get some stands for the lcr? colterphoto1 Posted September 1, 2014 Share Posted September 1, 2014 I just conferred with a cinema specialist regarding the addition of some KPT904's to our 400 seat theater (occasional theater use), and he recommends having the speakers as high on the screen as practical. I would definitely go no lower than to have the acoustic center of the loudspeaker in the top third of the screen. I'd personally like to vouch for the widest sound stage possible, particuarly if you are using the Omnimount brackets to angle them into the listening area. Also, I have a question regarding projection location. In the redesign of my front wall, in order to obtain a 150" diagonal, I will need to move my projector inside the rear wall. Currently my projector is inverted and they suggest you mount the projector no higher than the top part of your screen to prevent from having to keystone. With the new projector location and being mounted upright instead of inverted, will that want to push the screen image up to the ceiling or will I need to use my lens shift to bring it down? Are you 100% certain you will have to move the projector back.? do you have a little zoom shift with the panny? It seems like when i was there you had a good amount of room between the lens and the screen. I know you definitely don't want keystone effects so hopefully if you do move it back you will still be at just the top of the screen. In regards to my subs behind the screen I'm hoping there won't be any issues with them located in the alcove behind it. Bill Charleston is similar in many ways to savannah, but larger and nicer in my opinion. If you enjoy visiting savannah you will definitely like Charleston.
