cyto
I know this topic has been covered a million times but I have a question I did not see posted anywhere concerning the bracing options for the La Scala bass bin. I know about the Volti type braces and thickening the sidewalls. Has anyone just put a brace (perhaps 1" x 3") horizontally across the front with a notch in the middle to clear the doghouse? Thanks David
CECAA850
That would certainly help but not be as effective as the other methods. The majority of the sides would still be unbraced.
Schu
just hammer 2x4's to the sides....
Marvel
IIRC, djk suggested cutting a 'V' in a 2x4 and using a pipe/bar clamp to hold it in place to hear the difference. Bruce
moray james
just hammer 2x4's to the sides.... Well if Schu are going to hammer 2x4's on the side of your cabinet why would you hammer them on as shown in the photo since this will result in the least possible increase in stiffness to the cabinet wall? Turn the 2x4 on edge and things will get a lot stiffer. Step away from the hammer very slowly. Best regards Moray James.
cyto
As an experiment I took 3/4" plywood 8" long and cut it to fit tightly between the side of the doghouse and the cabinet side. It really toned down the vibrations, I probably will leave them in there.
fuzzydog
just hammer 2x4's to the sides.... I'd recommend screws...not nails.
