Superdave
Hey Guys, Need your input/ advice on some visually appealing stands to accommodate the RB-81ii's for surrounds. Any ideas? 2 stands will be on carpet and the other 2 stands will be on tile flooring. Edited January 31, 2015 by Superdave
willland
Superdave, At what height do you want your horns of the 81II's to be? Is this primarily a multichannel music setup(lower suggestion) or mostly for HT(higher suggestion)? Bill
Superdave
Hi Willland, The primary usage is for HT for the Atmos setup. According to Dolby's height suggestion, it should be ear level. My concerns are two, the weight of the 81's and then the visual appeal of the stands is also very important.
K5SS
I had some large bookshelf speakers sitting on these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001286F6M/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1422719996&sr=8-2&keywords=bello+speaker+stands&dpPl=1&dpID=31gLSnxDn2L&ref=plSrchπ=AC_SX200_QL40 They are built like tanks and they come in a variety of heights. K5SS
That guy in the video was using carpet spikes on his hardwood, don't do that.. Haha!
Superdave
Randyh, Thanks for the direction. I really like the way the stands look in the video.
Superdave
That guy in the video was using carpet spikes on his hardwood, don't do that.. Haha! I have heard of some people using the spikes on hardwood floors, but I would tend to think it would damage the flooring. I don't have any hardwood in the basement, it's travertine tile and carpet. TasDom
Don't limit your search to stands designated for speakers only. Look for plant stands, pedestals even bar stools. A lot of these have a much nicer visual than most of the speaker stands currently available. just my .02 ymmv https://www.google.com/search?q=plant+stands&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YRTNVKXPHdT_yQSTkIKoCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1024&bih=702 https://www.google.com/search?q=plant+stands&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YRTNVKXPHdT_yQSTkIKoCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1024&bih=702#tbm=isch&q=planter+pedestal+stand https://www.google.com/search?q=plant+stands&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YRTNVKXPHdT_yQSTkIKoCQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1024&bih=702#tbm=isch&q=wood+plant+stand

TasDom
No problem, I'm looking around too for a bedroom set up.
Superdave
My set-up is based around the Atmos speaker placement of 7.4.4 (Using in-ceiling speakers). I want to make sure that I am approaching this properly with the height placement of the surrounds. From what I have read from the Dolby Atmos installation guide, " All listener speakers should be at the same height, typically 3.9 feet (1.2 meters), which is ear level for the average seated listener (as defined in ITURBS.1116-1). If possible, the height of the rear speakers should be the same as the height of the front speakers." Here's a diagram that I have made for visual reference. Does this seem to be correct?
