ajoker2c
I had one that did a fantastic job in bedroom set up connected to Marantz 1070. Very versatile unit. GLWS

Jim
Question for you, I have the Musicstreamer II Dac and use it on my computer for my uploaded cds. My 2 channel set up is with 2 turntables and my computer through a Yaqin amp and out to my speakers. What benefits would this give me over the Musicstreamer? I may be interested in this unit. And what other applications could it be used with?
awsjr
Hi Jim.... The benefits are its waaaaay better.... ha... seriously, though I am not familiar with the HRT to make a fair comparison... one obvious thing is the Cambridge has multiple "ins and outs" if that's needed.. my source was a mac mini to the dac and I had my Horus 2A3 and my Mac 2105 connected and all I had to do was switch speaker cables on my XO's .... I cannot speak to the technicalities and sound quality between the two units... I can say the Cambridge was excellent in my set up.... if anyone sees and has experience with either one perhaps they can add their thoughts... thank you for the interest.... Jim
So if I understand correctly, will this also enhance the sound quality from my turntable that runs through a Cambridge Audio 551P Pre-amp out to my tubes? Would I run the pre out to the DAC and the DAC out to the tubes,or is that overkill? I'm very new with DAC's and don't fully understand yet. I know the DAC takes my cd's and outputs them to analog, but it only does it at 44k.

Jim
Bill and Joker, Question for the two of you. How much of an upgrade sonically will I get with this DAC vs the HRT? I know the HRT is limited on it's output with Windows.

I asked the question because I am not educated enough with DACs. I am just getting more into analog and don't know enough yet.
CECAA850
Ahhh, I thought I was missing something. You only need a DAC when you convert a digital signal (like computer output) to analog.
Jim
I guess I'm looking to see if anyone knows the difference in SQ with my HTR Musicstreamer II and the above OP's DAC.
willland
I guess I'm looking to see if anyone knows the difference in SQ with my HTR Musicstreamer II and the above OP's DAC.The only way to know is to compare them yourself. At the asking price of the Dacmagic, you can't lose if you don't prefer it and want to resell.Bill
SWL
I have the DacMagic "Plus" and from looking at the pics of the back of this unit....it seems to have the same amount of ins/outs. I use mine to convert from USB to optical. This thing is so versatile and handy. I run all of my digital devices into the unit and run out with the optical output but you can also run out of it with coax digital as well. You can change inputs with the push of a button (like a preamp).
SWL
Also, you're not limited to use it as a DAC. You can go out of the DacMagic into another DAC as long as the other DAC has an optical or coax input. In this way, the DacMagic is not being used as a DAC but a converter.....USB to Optical....USB to Coax.....Optical to Coax or vice versa etc. etc. Very flexible unit.
