First, I know this isn't Klipsch related, but if you are reading this, you cannot complain, as you have opened a topic that is obviously not Klipsch related. Smile.gif

Methinks this is a joke. I live in Greece and have heard nothing about it - not that that is any kind of guarantee!

I will check it out and let you know (for those that are interested).

If there is any truth to this I imagine it will get cleared up vey quickly - that or about a million game players in Greece are going to solve the national dept problem.

Greece's biggest games... The Olyimpics... are the OLYIMPIC games illegal now? That is part of their history, a HUGE piece of it, and making games illegal, when your country had such a massive impact on the gaming world is... well, i don't know. just think that Greece of ALL countries should have no problem with games. Gambling is going to happen no matter what you do, i bet i can hold my breath longer than you... go to jail, do not collect $200...

Only electronic games, not real games.

Justin, e-mail the webmaster and see if he can give you special graphics when you reach 10,000 posts, like one gold star for every 10,000 posts, and a red dot for every 100,000 posts ($hit, imagine doing 100,000 posts!!!)

So much for the "birthplace of democracy." Sounds like the kind of thing they would do in Saudi Arabia, not Greece. You cannot sell a cell phone there if it is capable of displaying Hebrew.

Ken,

Its just a matter of time before Big Brother catches up with you. Nevada didn't have a sales tax either and now it does. Nevada didn't require registration of machine guns and now it does. Nevada didn't have a speed limit on the open highway and now it does. Mafia used to run the casinos and you never had to worry about trouble on the streets around the casinos in Las Vega. Now bean counters run the casios and the streets are full of hookers, muggers, porn peddlers, etc. Boy, I miss the good old days in Nevada.

Of course, I live in the Peoples Republic of California. Nevada has a long way to go before it gets as bad as here.

All Nevada does is COMPLY with federal laws (or would not get federal $$$.)

California (People's Republic of) goes ABOVE and BEYOND those regulations for their own reasons.

Thats the fundamental difference.

Anyhoo,

As for the Mafia not running the casino's anymore, trust me, really trust me, it's not quite dead. A casino was ripped off recently (like $50,000), the guys never made it to court.

I guess the ever money generating lottery is now toast.

Get this, I heard on the radio a few days ago that Target (I think) is no longer gonna carry sports jerseys or ball caps with the number 88 on them (??). According to some wacked out people the 8th number in the German alphabet is "H". So, obviously tis represents the letters "HH" together which obviously stands for "Heil Hitler"!! If I were Lynn Swann I would be livid.

This seems more and more likely to be a joke.

I have searched all the Greek sites and other than the one referenced can find no mention of law 3037 anywhere, nor any legal provisions made during this year for gaming of any form.

Further, I spoke to a company that is launching a Fantasy gaming on-line / interactive TV / mobile telephone enabled service on Monday of next week - hardly likely if the above were true (they have had full legal advice).

Put it all down to web BS until further notice.

Typical - make a post and immediately get an update:

There is a law but it is not exactly as stated above:

From one of the daily newspapers:

Quote:

On-line chess banned from Internet cafes?

Three months after promising to instantly outlaw all electronic games from the public domain in the wake of a heated public debate on widespread illegal gambling, the government tabled a bill to that effect in Parliament yesterday.

The draft law, presented by the Economy and Finance Ministry, bans any form of electric, electro-mechanical and electronic game devices, including computers, from hotels, coffee shops, club premises and public areas in general. This will not apply to Internet cafes, which, however, will not be allowed to offer their clients computer games.

The police will be responsible for catching offenders, who will face fines of 5,000 to 75,000 euros and imprisonment of one to 12 months.

The blanket ban was decided in February after the government admitted it was incapable of distinguishing innocuous video games from illegal gambling machines.

End Quote

It still seems rather drakonian but it is not quite as bad as portrayed. You can play games in your own home safely.
