ahhbee78
I know this doesnt answer your question but... In my experience, above average stereo is much better than ok HT. Just a thought ------------------ Denon 1601 Sony VCR, DVD, CD Changer (all from Best Buy... that means its the 'Best') Philips CD Burner Panasonic 32" TV KSB 3.1 KSC-C1 KSF-S5 KSW-
tripod
I bought a Kenwood Theater in a Box system from Circuit City several years ago. I don't remember the exact price, but it was around the amount you're looking to spend. I am very happy with it and still have most parts of it in use. I recently added Klipsch SF2 fronts and an SC1 center, the rest is the Kenwood and sounds great. BestBuy has the HTB-505 for $499. http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11163720&m=1&cat=1552&scat=242 Here's a link to the Kenwood site, model HTB-504. http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/redirectFeature.jsp?goToUrl=product.jsp%3Fproduct Id%3D770 This message has been edited by tripod on 09-04-2002 at 11:02 AM
edwardre
PP - I don't know about how soon you want to be up and running, but if it were me, I would gather the pieces at cut rate bargain prices on e-pay. I know there are mixed feelings on this BB, but you can go far and above your present targeted quality level this way. A new Denon AVR1700, bare bones digital surround receiver can be had for about $150. Being patient, you can probably get the speakers required (in Klipsch) for the remaining $350. I just read where someone got a pair of Cornwalls off of e-bay for about $150. In any event, get the highest quality your money can buy. That doesn't always mean retail, Circuit City. ------------------ Ed
prodj101
500 dollars is kind of a restricting budget. As posted before, I would either buy a good 2 channel system, or wait tillyou have around 1000, and buy a nice theatre set up. ------------------ New music system: 2.1 using SF-2's (soon to be RF-7's), and an RSW-15. for amplification Mcintosh MC02105, B&K PT-3 preamp, Sony SACD player. pioneer turntable. Porno Pete
are systems like the kenwood really that bad? Im not incredibly picky with audio, I just want something decent.
justin_tx_16
youwould be better off with the new logitech Z-680. You will NOT beat this with any HTIB system, comes with a Dolby Digital and DTS decoder, remote, 5.1, and a sub that should really kick some arse. It will be out soon. If not that, and you can spend some more money for better highs and possibly cleaner bass, the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's rock out. Get the 4 year warranty to be safe, though I have had no problems with any of my three systems. You can NOT do better than that for a 5.1 system for under $500. LogiTech 5.1 system with DTS/DD $280-340 Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 with DTS/DD $499 They both rock/will rock And you really can not, you can't, beat it for the price. ------------------ -justin SoundWise promediatech@Klipsch.com /1-888-554-5665 - RA# 800-554-7724 ext 5s> Email Me
tripod
Porno Pete The Kenwood system really is fine. It sounds great, has PLENTY of power if you check the specs and comes with everything you need. It's easy to lose sight of reality, but $500 isn't chump change to most people. Get a decent starter system now, and upgrade peices as you are able. Porno Pete
I have the promedia 5.1's but from what I understand you have to get a really expensive receiver to be able to hook them up.
JasN00b
you are mistaken... you only need the DD5.1 decoder... which can be had for.. *opens up promedia site* 169.99 trust me... that will kick the *** of any HTIB you can get for 500 bux. pluuuuuuus you can save that extra 300 or so dollars towards buying yourself a genuine klipsch HT ------------------ --------------------- I. Emerging Audiophile
Hey, I work for Best Buy, and there is no HT system there worth buying for 500 dollars. The closest thing that BB carries is a 500 dollar 5.1 JBL speaker package that is pretty nice, but then you need to go with a receiver, which I would recommend Yamaha because everything else BB sells is pretty crappy. R.J. Yamaha HTR 5560 JBL Studio Series 6.2 setup Klipsch KSW 12 (Yeah that's right 3 subs) Toshiba SD-4800 DVD player 32' GE TV- Will be upgrading to Samsung DLP *** I'm proud of it, considering I just turned 20 and am still in college.
