To look at their App. notes you have to create an account (big deal). Most of their app. notes are too big file size to cut and paste here. I have spoken with the President of the company several times and the cool thing is he only wants to sell you a transformer if you absolutely cannot fix your problem any other way. Also their app notes explain balanced and unbalanced interfaces and how to interconnect them properly. On 11/18/2016 at 10:43 AM, babadono said: Dummy plugs! Dummy plugs! See Jensen Transformer website mentioned above. There IS a scientific way to figure this out. If you disconnect your TV cable feed does the hum go away completely? If so you may need video isolator as opposed to anything in the audio path. Listen to this man. It seems that everyone is glossing over these posts. If you want a simple, accurate, science based method for eliminating hum get the dummy plugs and diagnostic chart. IT WORKS! Anything else is guesswork. babadono
Yes if you have a hum in your system and it is unbalanced equipment you may not have a ground loop at all. You may be experiencing another type of problem called "common impedance coupling" or CIC as cecaa850 was with his tube preamp to tube power amp connection. CIC occurs when the power ground and signal ground currents travel through the same conductor as they do in unbalanced equipment. Most of the time the pieces of gear play nicely with each other and there is no hum or a barely perceivable (acceptable) level of hum. But occasionally CIC causes the 60Hz power ground current to get added to the desired signal and the amplifier amplifies it. And there it is HUM.
Charles M
I have downloaded the manual but what are the two test Adapters ?
babadono
What manual did you download? I forget which of Jensen App notes explains them best. I think more than one shows what they are and how to use. They are called dummy plugs. It is late, I can search better tomorrow if you need more help. T2K
I apparently missed this thread the first time around. I used a Mondial MAGIC Box for this purpose years ago and it worked for me. Haven't used it in years but I still have it. Info for posterity.
