Skillz4lif
Hey guys, newbie here. I'm currently trying to upgrade from my 5.1 HT Quintet setup to a 7.2. Thanks to this wonderful community, I have found a few deals on Craigslist and was curious on which I should pursue. One seller is in my area and selling RF-62 II's for $500, while the other is not but selling (2)RF-62's, (2) RS-15's and a RC-52 for $750. Now the package seems to be the better deal, but I wasn't planning on spending that much. My questions are: 1. How much better are the reference II fronts compared to the first series? 2. Should I see how much he's selling the 62's individually since this package is a little too rich for my blood? I was planning on buying a RC-62 II first, but these 2 deals seem like rare opportunities.
Moderators Youthman Posted December 21, 2016 Moderators Share Posted December 21, 2016 I've owned several speakers from both series (RS62 and RS62ii, RB81 and RB81ii, and RC64 and RC64ii). My ears could not hear a difference. The only pair that sounded different to me are my RF7 and RF7ii. Original 7's are brighter. i love the look of the Version II though. I really like the new color of the driver. See if you can get a good deal on the air instead of the whole set
derrickdj1
The package is the better deal. Some people will suggest the RC 62 or 62 II as a better center and the match woofer size of the front 3. It depends on space constraints and how large is the are where the system is going on which will be the better center for you.
badass091286
shouldn't you consider buying these instead..??http://www.frys.com/product/6680264?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PGSent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Moderators Youthman Posted December 22, 2016 Moderators Share Posted December 22, 2016 That price is for a single speaker and they say limit one per household.

See if you can get a good deal on the air instead of the whole set I agree, I really like the look of the RF 62ii and I wouldn't have to drive 2 hrs to get them. However, I'm going to take your advice and see what the price of the RF62 would be individually. The only issue with getting the RF62s is then finding the center again. It seems that most people are selling the RC52 while the RC62 appears to be the center of choice in the community.

calhockey10
more deals will always pop up I bought my RF82's for $500 and have seen them pop up around that price here and there. Just got to keep looking everyday and be quick I got a steal on my RF7 setup ended up coming out only down $150 for RF7, rc7, rsw15. Just come up with what you want and keep looking otherwise you could come up losing if you keep upgrading. Where are you located there has been a pair of RF5's for $500 that have been on craigslist for a couple weeks now

You would pretty much be at the top of the reference line food chain with these. http://richmond.craigslist.org/ele/5929621691.html
calhockey10
then pray this guy still has this http://richmond.craigslist.org/ele/5878622310.html RC7 to match them and you have a pretty stout front line

derrickdj1
As long as they are in good shape, the old vs new, both look good. They are different but, if they are nice cosmetically, either will work. The Reference line is close enough that an RC 62 or 62II would work. I have an older RC 64 paired with my RF 7 II and have not gave a second thought to changing it. I also used it with the RF 7's.
Skillz4lif
Wow, that is good. I'm surprised, they didn't show up on my search. However, I've reached out to the seller. In the meantime, I've talked to the seller of the reference package and he's willing to drop it to 650 for all. I was originally planning to keep my quintets as the surrounds in the 7.1 but if I get the 7s I will need something bigger on the back end
Heritage_Head
Get the 7s if you can. Its a different level all together. Almost like they aren't even in the same line. Over the years I personally have owned a lot of different reference models, And of course the 7s should sound the best being what they are yes.., But (imo at least) its more. They have some of what I would try and describe as magic maybe...? idk what word works best, Been trying to describe that sound on forums for years. Example Pwk old stuff and the pro line speakers are just drenched with that sound. The lower model reference ii sound great for what they are for sure. But they don't really have that same sonic sig. Only a few rare reference models have a little of that. 7 are one of them.
Skillz4lif
I'm still in the market and waiting for a response on the 7s. However, I was curious about the WF-34s and the WC-24. I was surprised to find Klipsch speakers without the horn.

They were just a new take on tractrix called XT Tractrix Horn. http://www.klipsch.com/products/wf-34-floorstanding-speaker Bill
Skillz4lif
Yeah, that horn totally threw me off.
