Bluray Players w/ Bitstream Output

Turns out that my cheap Sony bluray player will not support bitstream output which means that I cant pass the Dolby Atmos soundtrack to my receiver.  Does anyone know of current bluray players which can output bitstream?

I'm hoping that i dont need to spring for an OPPO since i'm just using an HDMI connection and am not convinced that there is any difference in signal quality from one player to another (let me know if i'm wrong on this).

How old is your Sony BD player?

Pretty much all BD players since around 2008/2009 are able to send a lossless bitstream to your AVR or pre/pro to decode.

Only about 1-2 years old.  It definitely does not output bitstream.

That is somewhat crazy.  So, when you watch a BD and choose DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD in the movie's audio setup, do you see on your AVR's screen what it is decoding?  If you do, then your player is sending a bitstream.

What model Sony is it?

Except when they want to cripple models using bits and pieces that seem unimportant to the general public but are exceptionally important to the niche buyers.. this forces you to buy into the higher tiered offerings.
