dtr20
I am currently running a Denon AVR-X6200W as a preamp to my external amps running 7.2.4 atmos setup. I was thinking about upgrading to a Marantz AV7703 preamp. Would there be a significant upgrade in sound quality?
willland
Though I have never heard either one, I doubt it will be a huge significant change to your system. The Denon 6200 is second from flagship(7200) model as well as the Marantz pre/pro from the flagship 8802A. Tough call IMO. Bill
Khornukopia
My Denon X-4000 AVR sounded fine, but I wanted to use all XLR interconnects with my active crossovers and multiple outboard amps, so I bought a Marantz pre-pro. I then gave the Denon to a friend, who now has a nice sounding home theater with his Klipsch in-wall and ceiling speakers, and I have a system that I am happy to listen to AND enjoy looking at the professional appearance of my hardware installation. Max2
Marantz 8802A is a step up on paper from any of the Denon line as far as a Pre/Pro goes. The bench guys say the 8802 is right there with the Anthem AVM
dtr20
My amps don't use xlr, so for now, these will be running unbalanced interconnects. Is there a big difference in quality between unbalanced and balanced? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

If fully balanced from source to output, most likely yes. Noise floor is usually lower with balanced connections. Bill
Max2
Amps and Pre's need to be truly balanced before XLR will mean anything. Now its not to say that swapping from RCA to XLR's wont yield any improvement. You'll just have to try both. Having said that, most RCA outs have a higher SNR ratio than XLR and I wouldn't worry with it unless you're running fully balanced gear.
