Harleywood
Santa brought me a Record Doctor V for Christmas. The solution that came with it quite frankly wouldn't clean the dust off of my rack. Any recommendations for a good solution that will deep clean 35 year old vinyl? The factory bottle didn't even get rid of the pops on brand new LP's.
jcmusic
Curious, which cleaner came with it that wouldn't clean?
JohnA
LOL! Pops are not necessarily "dirt".

I have a lot of 30+ year old vinyl that has never been washed. Only cleaned with dry brushes and cloths. Most of them still sound good with an occasional pop here and there but my copy of Dark Side Of The Moon is filthy and sounds horrible. All those nights in my 20's where I'd put in on to go to sleep and it got left on platter for days and weeks at a time.

Tarheel
Make your own. Distilled water, 97% isopropyl alcohol, 1 or 2 drops of Dawn dish washing detergent. Don't use rubbing alcohol which may contain lanolin (a skin conditioner). As good a cleaner as most.

May give that a try. How many parts water to iso?

Schu
That's what I have used and it nearly got rid of all static and dirt... and I live in a dry low humidity desert. The one biggest thing that worked... keep them clean in the first place.
Harleywood
Factory solution Eliminated static for sure. I need a deep cleaner. Going to mix my own using Tarheels recipe. Thanks Tarheel !
