Tubie Nubie needs help.

Thank you Gentlemen.

I will put them in and give 'em a listen.

If they're hit, then I can get another set for $15.

That's a 70s price for a 70s tube.

Only problem is that supplies are limited.

I recently befriended a CB/Ham radio shop owner, who coincidentally is good friends of my family.

Small world isn't it?

Anywho,

He has a large cache' of old tubes.

When I get over there this week to test my Quad matched set of Telefunken EL34s, i'm going to poke around in his stash and see what he has.

Maybe, I can find a buried treasure.

Who knows?

Wish me luck.1.gif

Been working on a theroem for turbo tube rolling... using 3 tubes. It's like a drum roll... but yet it's still a tube roll. You also may have to retake juggling 101, to refresh your skillz. First pop all 3 tubes in oven to get then burned in. Might even want to put on broil for a minute to get the tops nice and brown like in pics. Then too hot to carry, so roll them to the amp. Once there you gotta get a good drum roll going, to realign the 5th dimension of tube elves (small guys in there, trust me). then you jerk the tube out, throw it up in the air (with grimace & in time with music mind you) and delicately slam the tube in your other hand in the socket (while exclaming HOOCHIEMAMMA in the half second of silence in between tube exchanges to entertain your audiophile friends. Then catch the one that's falling and repeat. For a grand finale you may want to catch tubes between your toes and twirl them around (little known more advanced method than tube rolling. Yes, tube twirling is only for those serious audiophiles...

geez i have no life8.gif

Audioreality

You asked who Matsu****a is. It is a Japanese conglomerate manufacturing everything from memory chips , to electrical generating stations to Ocean going ships to transistor radios and chemicals. They are most familiar to audio and Home Theater users under the name Panasonic.

I used to roll a pretty good fattie in my youth.

But this tube rolling...EH?

Seriously!

Is there a neophyte tube book I should be reading?

Focus would be on SET for power.

Active or passive pre amp?

I prefer books I have 5 plane trips before Christmas; lots of time to read.

Hello all.

Well, one thing is for sure.

I'm really enjoying my Jolida

Tubes are pretty cool. 10.gif9.gif

All in all, I think this amp is pretty well built from what I can tell.

The point to point wiring looks a bit sloppy but I prefer it over a printed board, although Jolida could have used better wire.IMO.

The Vol Pot. is a bit scratchy.

I'll upgrade if a thorough cleaning doesn't help it.

Otherwise no where to go but up.

There's a ton of mods for this unit.

A 302 or 502 would be nicer, but I'm good for now with the 202.

At least until I get bored with it.2.gif

Bluelobster- Depressed Crustacean?

Thank you for the info.1.gif

Totally opaque!

Lynnm- Oh...Kinda like Fuji Heavy Industries?

I think i'm gonna roll the PhilipECG 12AX7s back in there.

These Mats sound like shlitz.

At least I think they do.4.gif

Thank you too, for the info.

AudioFlynn- You party animal.6.gif

It is a good question about source material.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any.

I wouldn't mind finding me one of those old "tube bibles" I keep hearing so much about.

Anybody know the story on those?

Go to the Tube Asylum. Do a search in their archives for 202 tube recs. You wont BELEIVE how many you will get along with many mods like you say. The little 202 is a sweet little lush amp; though not as powerful as its 302 bigger brother, it has a good sound for the price.

Better tubes will yield much better results with NOS rewards. I am surely not a big fan of the Philips 12AX7 in any form. A bit too harsh and unmusical.

Upgrading the volume pot will bring better sound. At least you dont have to bypass a balance like on the 302. I have had a lot of time with various Jolida and they were a nice bargain a few years ago when you could get a 202 for 375 and a 302b for around 475 (both used). The prices have gone way up. The transformers arent that bad. Upgrading to better caps, HEXFRED rectification, and a better volume pot is not that hard.

Here is a nice pic of the 202 you can save to your drive - You'll probably want to head to the upgrade stable in within a year if that dreaded disease hits...

Thanks alot Mobile.

Sweet Pic.

Ain't she purty?

Yeah, i'm not sure I like these philips either.

Kinda sounds like your sitting behind the stage next to the gig boxes.

Blah.

I'm definately gonna try a few different 12AX7s with this 202A.

I was thinking of going to my guitar shop and seeing if they have any of the ElectroHarmonics in stock.

The EH 12AT7 performed O.K.

But to really get the flavor of EH, I think I need to listen to a set of their new 12AX7s.

Ahhhhh, and I thought I was having fun collecting speakers and SS gear.

If feel more like i'm 14 again and upgrading my GrassHopper.

Only difference?
