Jabez Scratch
Since everyone loved my open call a while back on this forum for your favourite death scenes in a movive, I now want to know your guilty pleasure movies -- that is, those movies that you are embarassed to admit (even to yourself) that you like. Here is my short list: 1) Meatballs 2) Class of 1984 (or Search and Destroy or any other movie w/ Perry King in it) 3) Clash of the Titans 4) Halloween III (Season of the Witch) -- oh man, this one was so bad ... yet so good 5) Orca 6) Black Hole 7) Cannonball Run (1 and 2) 8) Action Jackson 9) My Bodyguard (actually, it was critically acclaimed so maybe not entirely appropriate for this list; also, why does Christopher Makepeace make my list twice? Who can say?) 10) TRON Please respond with your guilty pleasures.
Mark Hardy
How about these? The Big Bus (funny disaster movie spoof, IMO) Cold Turkey (Norman Lear's version of Durrenmatt's "The Visit"?) Silent Running (actually I think this eco-sci-fi piece is a pretty good movie) Those are the first ones that pop into my mind which aren't "good" movies (you know, like Casablanca, and Dr. Strangelove, and A Clockwork Orange, and M*A*S*H, and...) I reserve the right to post more...
Mark Hardy
Dang! I forgot Smokey and the Bandit ! Watched that with my teenaged son last Sunday for the first time in about 20 years... it made me nostalgic! ...and how about Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? One of the crassest movies I've ever seen, but it is funny!
m00n
Meatballs? Oh CMon, that is a great movie! A real classic. I love that movie. And Silent Running? How can that be a guilty pleasure? Another classic. I can onlything of a couple. Flash Gordon. I think it was in theaters back in 1978 or something like that National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. One of my all time favs for sure. eh, I dunno, there are more I'm sure... Will have to post more when I can remember them.
Jabez Scratch
Flash Gordon -- good one, m00n, very good -- the Queen soundtrack really made its brutalness stand out. That movie sucked real good, but we all liked it for some reason. Big Bus -- another excellent one: so damned bad, yet so watchable in a painful way With respect, I stand by my opinion on Meatballs: it was so crap-filled, but I could watch it every day. I have the soundtrack on my comp. And if you think Meatballs was bad/good/whatever, check out the sequels -- you'll swear that they were made by a crew of twelve year olds. Jabez Scratch
I'm seeing some good entries, in particular: Them -- I really liked that movie It's Pat -- so brutal, but stupid fun Day of the Triffids -- I think that that was a BBC miniseries, but it still counts. How about the Martian Chronicles? -- 80s miniseries w/ Rock Hudson based on the Ray Bradbury novel -- loved the movie, even though it stunk of cheesy 80s special effects and space leisure suits. cluless
Here's a few movies that might fit in the list... Kentucky Fried Movie This is Spinal Tap Heavy Metal That silly movie about the two canadian guys and beer. I'm sorry but Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Day of the Triffids and any of the Mothra movies should have been award winning testaments to modern cinematography. Mark Hardy
Weren't there fairly recent remakes of both Them and Attack of the 50 ft. Woman ? Also, another great guilty pleasure movie I almost forgot, but the above posts reminded me: Canadian Bacon !
