Where To Buy Tubes

Recommended Posts

What are some of the best places to buy tubes? I remember several good suggestions made a while back. In fact, I even purchased from one of those suggestions a couple of years ago. However, I no longer seem to have the information of the various internet sites that sell good tubes. Anyone have good suggestions???

Related to this is a second question -- what do you do with an old tube? Do you just throw them away??

Try SND TUBES at www.vacuumtubes.com. Michael Marks is a very personable and informed guy, and will go out of his way to make sure you get what you want/need. He has an immense inventory of NOS and used items. His website is always under some degree of construction, so a phonecall or e-mail is often desirable. I appreciate his same-day shipping.

Hope this helps.

Your comment speaks for your character dude. Oh, it was a joke. Have you tried stand up?

Is that supposed to be funny? Someone told you I'm only 3'4" tall didn't they? I'm tired of all the 'stand up' jokes.

I've had good luck with Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio in Southern California. http://www.upscaleaudio.com He's got a tremendous selection of some of the very finest (and rarest) NOS tubes in the country. He also has some very state of the art test equipment.

If you're looking for more "run of the mill" stuff, talk to Jeff or Dan at Jeff's Sound Values (also in SoCal) I bought some 6550 Ruby Tubes from Jeff a year or so ago for my ARC D-115MK2 and they've been flawless. Plus, I think I only paid like $35ea. for two matched quads. http://www.jeffssoundvalues.com

Also well worth considering:

Antique Electronic Supply (especially for less esoteric fare):

www.tubesandmore.com

Triode Electronics (Uncle Ned): http://store.yahoo.com/triodeel/index.html

Electron Tube Enterprises (Dick Bergeron): http://members.aol.com/etetubes/

oh, and as to your second question: "...what do you do with an old tube? Do you just throw them away??" What is this term "throw... away" which you have used? It is unfamiliar to me (ask my wife)! :-)

(ummm, am I out of compliance with the new Forum rules for not including commercial links? If so, please delete the links above and/or let me know so that I can delete them).

Cut and paste the following:

http://pages.prodigy.net/jimmcshane/

Jim's a steller bottlehead who's also very knowledgable and has a vast tube inventory which he updates regularly. He answers all his e-mails and ships fast!

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=akeh&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50

Don't let his Stockholm address scare you away! Ake Holm from Sweden usually has a great selection on eBay at great prices, takes US currancy, and ships in a week or less using sturdy packaging.

Brendan also updates his huge inventory on a regular basis. He has lots of less popular tubes as well, all at fantastic prices! Check him out!

Brent Jesse...well, that's a given...he's great!

Good luck.2.gif
