All right!! Last week was great with many new folks stopping buy. Not only do you get to share music you like with your fellow forum members you could possibly win a Klipsch T-Shirt. Scooterdog did!

So what will you share this week?

Remember name of individual, group, name of album, type of music (cd,lp etc.) and style (rock, jazz) as best you can. Comments are welcome.

My suggestion for this week is:

Miss Peggy Lee "Sings the Blues", cd, blues/jazz. Hard to find but if you do you will hear her at her best without the show tunes I'm not a really big fan of. Songs include See See Rrider, Kansas City, Beale Street and Basin City Blues. Very well recorded.

Tangerine Dream. Just about anything from them. Well, maybe not their early early stuff. That was some way out there acid music. After they got out of that crazy acid music trippy stuff, they went mostly ambiant.

One CD I can't get enough of is the soundtrack to the Animatrix. It's what I did my soundtest to when I auditioned DeanG's RF7 crossover upgrade. It's a mix of techno, jazz, jazzy techno, ambient.

A reality show by the name of "The Casino" concluded a couple of weeks ago. The show was based at the Golden Nugget in Vegas. In the show, there's a lounge singer named "Matt Dusk" and he's just released a CD called, "Two Shots of Happy".

Title song was written by Bono of U2 for Frank Sinatra but ole Blue Eyes upped and died before he could record it. So Matt Dusk has released it. It's well worth a listen - kind of haunting. As well, a really interesting version of the very early Beatles rocker, "Please Please Me" is also on it. By the way, Matt Dusk is a fairly young Canadian who won a star search type of contest in '97 and has never looked back.

- by Grandma Dusk (not really - just kidding)

okay Moonie, I'll keep it on the ambient vein for ya.

An old fave I just brought out is the master of Ambient and producer extraordinaire (U2, Roxy Music, many others)- Mr. Brian Eno

One of the best of his collection, totally non-vocal is Music for Airports. It was actually used at Denver's Stapleton airport for the muzak system for a while. Very drony, relaxing. ONly 4 tracks on an LP length CD, each different.

Frank Zappa - Civilization Phase III

Frank's last work before he died. A project long in the making, referred top as his master work. Mostly Frank playing synclavier, it's described as an "opera" about a group of people who live inside a piano. No singing, just some dialog between pieces. Great stuff, fantastic quality sound. Highly recommended.

First off Tangerine Dream were at their prime with their early material. That dreck from the mid to late 80's is just plain bad. The classics are Rubycon, Phaedra & Stratosfear. Some of their better soundtracks are Near Dark, Thief(great movie by the way), Legend & Sorcerer.

I just came across Tangerine Dream a while ago...I really liked the sound and have been looking for other similar stuff.

"Nightwish - Once" just came out recently and it's a really good album if you like operatic metal stuff. It's very original music and I always have a hard time describing it. If you want to download some free legal mp3 samples, check out their site: http://www.nightwish.com/english

If you don't like female vocals, you should check out both albums by Avantasia (The metal opera, part I and part II). It's a speed metal opera done by Toby (or Tommy) Sammett and as far as speed metal fanatics go, they hate it. But as far as people with an orchestral background, they go nuts about it. It's a bit overproduced, but is some freaken amazing music (or at least i think it is).

I'm still searching for more music similar to nightwish and avantasia...anything that's heavy metal + opera or orchestral or anything like that.

O.K. ambiant it is, The self titled cd from AIR is a great! I am not into that type of music, but this one is pretty good. Electronic, laid back.

But if you are looking for something new, and something old at the same time. And you are into just plain, unbutcherd by producers rock and roll check out Kings of Leon. I found it to be a refreshing change of pace from the crap that is being put out today.

I am looking for some music that will show off my speakers potential. I am into rock as well as good classic jazz. Old or new, anybody got anything worth checking out?

I used to listen to tangerine dream every night to put me to sleep. It sounded like the rain forest don't know which one it was, but it was pretty cool sitty back and just thinking. I am listening to the radio right now and it sounds like a new tune from the black crowes, but if my memory is correct it's a new solo project by Chris. I am gonna have to look into this it sounds like the stones with Chris singing.

Thanks for the Tangerine reminder, Wheel! I used to listen to them all the time whilst ....drinking koolaid! LOL

Another great one from their school is Michael Hoenig (think he was with TD for a while) Departure from the Northern Wasteland. Only one song per side of LP and it really took you out there.

I highly recommmend TD for ambient listening, but get a sampling first, some if can escalate into rather frightening sounds at times. I use those portions for my 'Halloween' tapes.

let's take the short jump from ambient to trip hop....Zero 7 "When It Falls" is an absolutely jazzy, trippy, elctronica cd

their first disc "Simple Things" is also good

Tell me we're not talking about TD and ambience without someone bringing up Jean Michael Jarre and "Oxygene" or have you checked out Mike Oldfields "Tubular Bells" on DVD-A? Awesome!!!!
