Cleve
A friend sent me a link for this Panasonic car stereo... http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?cPath=61_78&products_id=722 I can't figure out what role the "B-flat Tube" plays - if it's in the pre-amp or amp section, or if it handles CD decoding. Cal Blacksmith
The tube is to look at! There is no other reason for it. My first car had a tube radio in it, a 6 volt Volvo radio installed in a 66' V Dub squareback. It took about 20 seconds to come on and the thing had to be turned up loud enough that you didn't hear the buzzer that turned 6 volt DC into pulsating DC to be fed into the transformer and then stepped up to the needed voltages. I guess I should have kept that radio, it's tubes were for real! I could have been tube rolling for all these years!
picky
I too can remember when all car radios (foreign and domestic) were tube radios. Funny, that the ad claims to be "the world's first car receiver with a built-in vacuum tube ". There were lots of tubes in the old ones, not just "one tube". Daddy Dee
This sure does look cool and I'd love to hear it. My take on the b-flat is that it's just the name for marketing. The tube is probably something like a 12ax7 or similar. I went out to see what I could read about it on the internet, and not much, unless you can read Japanese. The main Panasonic site doesn't list the unit in the available units, but in the link to Panasonic of Japan, it is there for sure, with no english text. Cleve
I wonder if it won't be offered for sale in America? Many such products aren't.
Daddy Dee
It may be that that audiocubes site is the only place that's got a line on them. Seemed odd, though that it would only be available in Japan since the controls on the face are labeled in English. Who knows? Maybe it will soon be in local retailers soon. mike stehr
http://www.panasonic-europe.com/technics/products/product_detail.asp?range=cdmixer No need for vinyl to scratch anymore. I found that looking for the Panasonic specs, I remember reading more info about the unit that I can find now.
fini
When are they going to make a tube vacuum cleaner? These solid state models are just too harsh...
