Piranha
What is the best bang for buck, let's say under $1500? I mainly listen to redbook in 2-Channel, but I will ocassionally throw on an SACD. I currently use a Sony 333ES and a Sony 222ES (sacdmods.com). Can I get noticeably better souund quality with a new player under 1.5 large? Or am I just wasting $$? nicholtl
I'd say a Denon 5900, a Pioneer Elite 59AVi, or a Sony NS999ES. You could have it modified by Modwright or a similar company, but that might put you over $1500.

It really was not fair. the Jolida was plugged into Blueberry and VRDs very stout components with miniscule liabilities.

Most satisfactory, suitable, or useful; most desirable: the best solution; the best time for planting. Greatest; most: He spoke for the best part of an hour. Most highly skilled: the best doctor in town BTW, thanks for your time. It's comforting to know i will be receiving the "best" recommendation possible. analogman
Now you've confused me. If the adjective "best" is objective then who do I believe? I always thought "best" was in the eye of the beholder. But what do I know, that's why they call me, Analogman

I have one, abeit a Mod 1 from Underwood Mods, which goes for about $1200 out the door. It runs both my Belles (Peach & Marantz 8B) and my RF-7s (Marantz 7T & Dynaco Mark IIIs). Simply outstanding. j-malotky
Tom If you are serious, do yourself a favor and call Steve M. I have heard his mod deck playing redbook and it is by far the best sounding per dollar deal by far. I have been VERY impressed. JM
kjohnsonhp
How about Onix CD-1. $1495 direct. This is a rebadged MBL player costing twice as much. Good vinyl sound. no high rez

fgarib
See that little description under my name? It says Newbie... Hence you must forgive what seems like a stupid question... Err... Ahem... What is Redbook? Embarassingly yours, -F
maxg
"I always thought "best" was in the eye of the beholder." Er...no....that is "beauty". Best played for Manchester United upto 1974. -F Redbook is audio CD - plain and simple. There are several designations of CD (yellow book, blue book....) each refering to a different function of CD (in effect). I think Data CD's are yellow book - but I might be wrong - been a while since I looked at it. Basically anyone refering to redbook Cd is refering to bog standard CD audio playback (not MP3 and such like, nor SACD, DVDa or any of the host of alternatives).
