Kevmosmith
Does anyone know what the frame of the speaker grills are made of (and what the material is called) for the grills on Heresy, La scalas, etc.? I am building some for the La scalas. IF so, does anyone have a source for this? As always, many thanks and much appreciated. Kevin
Budman
masonite at home depot is what i've heard from forum members
ricktate
The LaScalas can be ordered from Klipsch with black grill and logo but you have to make the outside frame out of Baseshoe moulding i made mine out of oak baseshoe moulding turned out great.Dont use 1/4 round it doese not work right. If you order them from Klipsch they come with velcro to stick right on to,,,cool huh,,Rick
ricktate
Also black grill cloth can be ordered from dura crest fabrics #17 black,,,Rick
colterphoto1
the wood backing part is called masonite. 1/8" I believe. What you see at today's homecenters may look somewhat different, being tempered masonite, sometimes it has a harder, glossier appearance. They will both take spray (3m77) adhesive. colterphoto1
sorry, I'll edit the double post. I suppose instead of using the below named (balsa wood), you could also get from the hobby shop some Gator Foam, a very stable material used to mount photos and artwork. It's dense foam with a heavy plastic skin on either side, won't warp and also takes the spray adhesive. Easy to cut with Utility Knife. Born2RockU
I made a grill for my LaScala with simpler components. I went to the local hobby shop and bought the wood used to build models for $3.25 and some velcro then acquired the grill clothe from Kevmosmith and made a templete. Here's the results :

Deang
Well now, aren't you just the crafty one. Very nice! Where did you get the cloth Craig, it looks like a dead ringer for the original stuff --
Born2RockU
DeanG : You won't believe this ....but I bought my BLACK LaScala from the member whom started this exact post, Kevmosmith . ( KEVIN SMITH ) I also got the grill cloth from him. (Thank you sincerly Kevin) I am so curious why he is asking about the grill cloth. The phone number of where the material came from is on the shipping tube ...that I returned to him a week ago !!! Kevmosmith : Haven't you looked on the shipping tube for the phone number of that material seller located in California ???????
ricktate
I think by the time you pay for cloth from,,,Dura crest and buy backer board and glue you would have already had the ones from Klipsch including emblems and saved enough money to buy Baseshoe moulding to make the frame to.Just a thought Rick
Born2RockU
ricktate : Great point, Rick. I sometimes desire the "hands-on" approach with my passion towards improving my rig. If I can do it myself, my first thought is to just build it instantly myself, instead of praying and waiting weeks for orders to get here on time. It just happens to be that I received the LaScala grill cloth complementary from Kevin Smith . My LaScala Grill cost me about $5 to make, thanx to Kevin !!! Erik Mandaville
...My interpretation of this is that Kevin was wondering about the name and source of the material used to fabricate the grille FRAME -- not the woven grille fabric, which he obviously already knows about and has shared with others. Tom Mobley
Klipsch charged me over $50 apiece for LS grills a year or two ago. They were $25 per but I didn't get them ordered in time and they doubled in price over New Years. Dang. One of the emblems is crooked too. ricktate
While i also like to make stuff myself because im poor but i also understand if we as Klipsch owners dont buy some stuff from Klipsch and help keep workers in Hope working we may not have any Hope of any parts at all.I bought mine last year for my LaScalas not sure what i paid but i dont think it was 50.00 apiece though.Rick
