dr-dezibel
The auto callibration of my Denon says they're large! I would say they're small. What setting do you recommend? And concerning sub mode: LFE or LFE+MAINS? What effects have these settings?
Indyjeep
Im not quite sure what the heresy's freq response is but if it goes deep enough you can set it to large, and with the LFE and LFE + Mains its just asking if you want the low freq to go to both the L and R mains and the Sub or just the Sub... CECAA850
Start out by setting your speakers to small (assuming you have a sub) and crossover to 80Hz. Set the LFE to sub only and listen to a movie soundtract or two and get a feel for what you are hearing. You can then tweak and change settings, having a base setting to compare to. gcoker
Yes Indy, that's what I did. Start everything to Large and Sub only. Play a good movie chapter then switch your setting to small and listen to the same chapter again. You will probable do this many time. Set it to what sounds the best to you. I ended up on my set up to small for all speaker and sub only.

HT just really works well in this configuration if you have a capable sub. With this setup, the sub is doing what it does most effectively and the mains are doing what they were built to do most effectively and efficiently. It's all a matter of personal preference, but that's a good working configuration.
dr-dezibel
Thanks a lot for your replies, people! I'll try as you suggested. But what does the sub when playing only music (stereoi or PLII) when speakers are set to small. Does he get any signal?
Danartdis
If the receiver is set up to "know" that you have a sub and you want your mains to be considered small, it will send lower freq material (<80hz) to the sub during movies or music. Danartdis
By the way I would definitely set the Heresys to small. If you have a sub there is no point in forcing the Heresys to try to duplicate what the sub should be doing.
SilverSport
...this is how I have my Heresys hooked up as well... Bill
Tom Adams
Yeah, I've tried my Heresys both ways and mine are always set to small. Especially when I was using my Heresys as mains. The Heresy might be capable of going down to 60 or 40Hz, but not with the kind of output one needs for HT impact. Tom
Indyjeep
I dont know, in my HT i have all my speakers set to large, and the bass output of those and the sub sounds great, especially in movies like LoTR:RoTK, when you hear that heartbeat, all my channels were putting out deep deep bass, gotta love a speaker thats capable of 40 hz and lower. Never do AUTO, manually, trust me..get a Radio Shack db meter and set it yourself.. Hersey's up front, large, but better be matching all around IMO...
