Hi Picky:

To give an idea from a fan perspective.

We have the Rochester Americans AHL Team, farm club for the Sabres.

There was a conflict for Rochester building use. Thus the game was played in Buffalo where the Sabres play.

Attendance for an earlier part of the season: 17,898.

Average when NHL is playing, for Rochester at home is 6,500. Now add 2,000 + Buffalo fans that drive to watch Hockey = 8,500 +

New Season record 7 shut-outs by our Goalie Ryan Miller. Season is not over.

We have been # 1 or # in the AHL League for total points. Last game we had 3 fans from Ottawa near us.

The fault is money. It's obscen when Sports players make 10 times that of the United States President. Even multiples more than teachers, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, EMTs. And we have people that volunteer for Departments or Ambulance Corps.

All sports are out of touch with reality. They say that they will "Only" play so long. They can't get a regular job after retiring?

The NHL is shooting themselves in the foot. With the number of players going to Europe, when and if there is a Seaso, The AHL will be ripped of players. Tha's when my now 24th year as a Seaseson Seat Holder will end.

As we also have Season Subscriber seats to the Philharmonic, our Local theater (usually at least 2 cast members have been on Law and Order, NYPD Blue, Third Watch) and The Shaw Festival, we'll put that money to IRAs, or a Vacation.

I would love to see ANY sports team in the pros (the Bills received 80 million tax dollars to build luxury Skyboxes) - aid to education has been cut. Our idiot mayor has committed 36 million to a Fast Ferry to Toronto that ceased operations after about a month, now he wants to buy it and have the City run it, cracks in the side from running and the cold. We have Marshals guarding it from being taken.

And the fans keep paying to watch over paid athletes to play a game they love. Just think what we should charge to listen to music.

dodger: In contrast from a Detroit Fan's point-of-view:

Joe Louis Arena Per-Game Average Attendance Figures

2003/2004 20.066

2002/2003 20,058

2001/2002 20,057

2000/2001 19,995

1999/2000 19,983

1998/1999 19,983

1997/1998 19,983

1996/1997 19,963

1995/1996 19,928

1994/1995 19,780

1993/1994 19,820

1992/1993 19,707

1991/1992 19,723

What does all of this mean?

Two things:

1) With a capacity of 19,995, Joe Louis Arena is full and at standing-room-only capacity for nearly every game, lately.

2) Detroit really is Hockeytown!

I think both sides are at fault. But, with all of the BS aside; Damn, I miss Hockey! 15.gif 2004/2005 0 14.gif

Detroit IS Hockeytown.

I was there for a Conference in 1988 and 1989. I attended games (remember the squids?), some say Chicago.

I cut myself off in mid thought last post- wouldn't it be funny for the players and owners to come out and see 2 people in an arena? Not just picking Hockey - 80 games plus

Football 16 games plus. Baseball 160? am I correct?

In our morning paper, someone stated salary caps were agreed on.

It amazes me that we have 3 players from Rochester: Gionta - NJ Devils, Fitzpatrick - Sabres, Reasoner - Edmonton. In one way or another we know all 3- Fitzpatrick's GrandMother was in my In-Law's Wedding, Gionta- School with Brothers In Law - brought cup here SOLID! We also bought windows from his Uncle. Reasoner: neighborhood Hardware Close friend, he drops in.

Well, we shall see. Did you ever get Signed Lithograph of Howe?

Well I guess those of us who live in the Tampa Bay area get to savor winning the Stanley Cup for at least one more year for sure.

Hi Steeler:

Owning property near Brooksville, I can speak. Spring Hill.

Wouldn't there have to be Stanley Cup Rounds in order to Win?

You just have it hostage3.gif

Are you far from Spring Hill?

Then there are always the Toronto Maple Leafs, where if you field a competitive team they place will always be filled. We don't need no stinkin' cap just to keep the Pheonix's, Miami's, Carolina, Pittsburg and several others in business. Just form a superleague with the teams who can make a profit and run the league. Thirty teams is way too many and the product is way too diluted at the moment.

Sad to see the league shut down for the year. 15.gif

Hey dodger,

I'm about an hour down US19 from Spring Hill. We have a few people from from work who live up there. We have one who lives in Brooksville as well. I think he takes the Suncoast Parkway to work.1.gif

Having hockey in towns that have no ice, no frozen ponds and creeks, is totally artificial and akin to such spectator only "sports" as Roller Derby and American Gladiator. Degeneracy.

I remember when I was a kid and the Chicago Park District would freeze the playgrounds for kids to skate on and supply firebarrels and wood for warming up. We'd take our skates and sticks down and pick-up teams and play.

That was hockey. Some Florida businessman who's never laced-up in his life sitting on his dead *** watching others do something he never has ain't.
