Klipsch RF-7 reviews

Hi, I've been doing Google searches to try and find some reviews on

the Klipsch RF-7 (other than AudioReview.com) but can't find any.

The RF-7 has been out since 2001 so I know there must be some reviews

out on them. Can anyone direct me to where some reviews are on them

so I can read them?

I did see that "Vacuum Tube Valley" magazine issue 19 at www.vacuumtube.com

did a review on the RF-7 but no online access to read that article.

Can anyone recap what that review said? I looked for it at the library but

they don't have that magazine.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! Kathy

I don't have any plans to move towards tubes. I haven't every tried

them, I heard them at a high-end audio store here locally and I don't

know if it was the system or combo but they wanted $80,000.00 for

the whole set with speakers and it sounded too soft and un-involving

to me. Even the CD player had tubes in it.

My friend's husband has the Rotel RB-1080 that he uses with his RF-7's

and it sounds great. It sounds a lot better to me than the $80,000.00

system I heard. I thought a system that cost that much should really

blow me away but it didn't. Maybe I'm missing something?

I already have some Rotel equipment. I have the RB-1090 and RC-1090

that I'll run with the RF-7's. I've talked to a few people here in

the Klipsch forum and some over in the Rotel Club fourm at http://htguide.com/forum

and quite a few people are running the RB-1090 and RF-7's and promise me

that the combo is superb together so I think tonight..... I might do it,

I'm going to talk to Good Guys tonight and come home with the RF-7's if

they still have it in Cherry wood. He's really making me a good deal that

I know for that price, there's no way I would get that sound even at some

higher prices. I'm replacing my Martin Logan's with the RF-7's. The Martin

Logan's are very revealing but I've never been completely happy with them

and the bass lacks where I've never been able to solve it, although the RB-1090

has given it more bass than anything else I tried. I later learned it's just

plastic used to make the electro sounds when something went wrong and they

had to replace the plastic when the sound went out in 2 years. I hear a lot

of bass from the RF-7 at my friend's house than I ever get out of my Martin Logan's

but other ML users have told me I need to get a sub-woofer with them since the

ML don't do well doing it.

Hi Kathy,

I have a pair of the sevens. I switched to all British gear and found I didn't need a sub anymore, so I sold it. I will say that some CDs aren't recorded well and tend to be on the brighter side. But with well done CDs, the seven's sound wonderful and the bass is killer.

Sometimes I wonder if tubes are a popular way to tone down the "in your face" character of horns. With warmer SS gear, horns can sound mellower too.

Kathy - be sure when you get your RF-7s home and set-up that the foam baffle in the lower portion of the speaker cabinet is not obstructing the ports in the rear of the speaker. Several of us have found that to be the case. I was not displeased with the bass before, but after pushing that baffle to the bottom and front of the cabinet, the bass was greatly improved. Don't worry, the 7s have plently of bass response - you'll love them.
