Born2RockU
They got here quick, but one of the amps is missing a 12BH7 driver tube. I haven't lite them up yet.
Erik Mandaville
You still got them at a really good price, and they arrived in good shape. Check the tube sources I sent you, Craig. That's not an uncommon tube.

Born2RockU
I just ordered a complete single set of tubes (including the MULLARD EL-37's) for one of the MC-30's, just to see if there is a difference. I heard about the 350B and the KT-66's , BUT couldn't find any new ones? Has anyone any experience w/ the EL-37's ? The tube company is so cool w/ me that they said if I don't like them, I can get my full money back!! ~ How is that for a guarantee to demo tubes? ~
Allan Songer
I have a one quad of EL-37 here. Very nice tube--in the same league as the KT-66 and WE 350B--these are the three members of the 6L6 "Royal Family" as far as I am concerned--you might not get the real AUTHORITY you find with the KT-66 or the eerie realism of the 350B midrange, but if you got a good deal on a quad (these sell for between $75 and $100 per tube normally in used but tested and "good" condtion) I am sure you will be more than pleased! Born2RockU
Allan Songer : I got a NewInBox pair of EL-37's for $195, w/ a money-back guarantee ! If I am pleased w/ the EL-37, it will compare directly w/ the 350B and the KT-66 ???
Allan Songer
Good price! But you need FOUR of them--I don't think you want to run one amp with EL-37 and another with those Russian 6l6GC! Get ALL FOUR with the same guarantee! No reason on earth I can think of to get just TWO of them?!? ALL 6L6 are "comparable." The best three for hi-fi are the WE 350B, the GEC KT-66 and the Mullard EL-37. The KT-66 has the most authoritative bottom end--very quick and fast. The 350B is CLOSE but far outshines the KT-66 in the midrange and highs--they produce an eerie lifelike quality in the midrange than I have heard from no other 6L6 type--especially noticeable with female vocals and alto and tenor saxophones. The Mullard EL37 doesn't quite measure up to either the KT-66 or t he 350B but still has a gutsy bottom and and a beautiful midrange. You will hear a DRAMATIC difference between the Russian 6L6GC and the Mullard el37. The difference between the EL37 and the KT66 or 350B will NOT be nearly as dramatic. Born2RockU
Allan Songer : So where do I find the quad WE 350B tubes ? (and, how much should i expect to mpay for all four?) ...is there a specific place you can point to me?
NOSValves
Craig, If you have $80 to spare just for sh!ts and giggle pickup a set of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=7275&item=6516782754 I'll be really curious to see what you think. Allan Songer
I know of no sources who sell WE 350B. This is a VERY scarce tube as it was used exculsively for commercial applications and was never produced in vast numbers. You find them on ebay and they tend to sell for about $250-$300 each NOS and for $100-$200 each used "testing good." I was lucky enough to find a bunch of them at a swap meet and bought them untested with no guratantee for a VERY cheap price. I have also bought singles on ebay whenever a good deal was to be had (less than $100 each). I have yet to be burned. The 350B is an incredibly rugged tube and in an MC-30 it will more than likely last forever.
Born2RockU
NOSValves : Thank You for the suggestion, BUT I may have found a QUAD set WE 350B's for $650. Is that a good price?
Allan Songer
Buy them! You will always be able to sell them for more on ebay. BUT MAKE SURE THEY ARE "WESTERN ELECTRIC" 350B "National Union" also made the 350B under contract during WWII and this version is worth HALF of what a genuine WE 350B is worth! Born2RockU
Allan Songer : Does the National Union versions sound close to the WE 350b's. Also, if I wanted something cheaper... ...would the Sovtek russian KT-66's be better the the China KT-66's ? Or, just stick w/ the 6L6's ?? That guy just called back and said that he just sold his last set of WE 350b's. Damn !!!
