Black Cabinet Question

I've never seen the black cab's up close on the KG series speakers. I'm wondering if the KG 5.2 black finish can be removed down to a wood grain or in there no veneer under the black finish.

This may be a dumb question but I'm having a very difficult time finding 5.2 or 4.5 speakers in Oak (or CF 1 or 2 for that matter) and I'm now looking at ways at getting around this problem.

So, would Klipsch cover a wood grain with a black finish? Fat chance but I'd thought I'd ask.

thanks

Yes they did, if there was a flaw in the veneer or they did not match well they were painted black. So yes there is veneer under the black paint or lacquer, the veneer type should be discernable by the wood grain I would think. The 5.2's and 4.5's do pop up on eBay and AudioGon on occassion but try doing a Yahoo or Google search, search images as well sometimes they will link you to pairs for sale on other web sites.

Oak is harder to find as you are finding out.

Thank you for the quick reply. Oak is not only hard to find, I'm finding it to be almost impossible due to my location in Canada and finding a seller willing to ship.

I do have a line on a set of black 5.2's - refinishing will make for a nice project. Hopefully I don't uncover too many flaws.

thanks again

Yes - any paint in the grain will be tough to remove. I was thinking I would use a paint remover first and sand second. If it doesn't work, I will have wasted a lot of time but I can repaint. Again, thanks for the input - if anyone has tried this, I would appreciate hearing from you.

And the re-veneer tip is appreciated - but I'm not comfortable enough with that process to tackle it.
