thebes
Last week before the next t-shirt giveaway. Don't forget you have to "play" to win. Labor Day is coming when we celebrate the efforts of working people everywhere and especially those brave people who organized the labor unions and fought for basic workplace protections resuling in the most rapid and sustained expansion of the middle class in history. So before you hop in the SUV or on your bike to head out for the weekend, spare a moment's thought for the working stiffs, yourself included. Format's simple. Name of band, individual, name of album, format (cd, lp etc., and type of music (jazz, rock etc. as best you can). Ramatam, self-titled, rock,lp One of my dumpster diving finds, and although physically it's in real sad shape the music is just great old fashioned rock. It's got your basic guitar riffs with some very nice blues and jazz feel mixed in with it. Sorry no other info on this group or if it's even available, but it was a find for me so I thought I'd share it. So what do you have to share this week? sunburnwilly
Gotta admit Rust In Peace and Peace Sells are both great CD's , but youz guyz gotta give their first effort Killing Is My Business another listen too . The more I listen to it the greater the production value seems , and I dig the songwriting in general , my fav. MD CD . But what do I know , I am still using a 140 watt per , current dumping , SS Quad 606 to drive my Belles . No wonder the old stuff sounds better to me . I'm Hungry ! I will have to look into buying that one again on cd then. Production wise couple of more mentionables for Megadeth Countdown to extinction cryptic Writings

grog
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Super Hits, Dance-pop/R&B, CD 1. Let the Beat Hit 'Em 2. Something 'Bout Love 3. All Cried Out 4. Head to Toe 5. I Wonder If I Take You Home 6. Lost in Emotion 7. Can You Feel the Beat 8. Little Jackie Wants to Be a Star 9. U Never Nu How Good U Had It - Full Force 10. Someone to Love Me for Me - Full Force Picks: "Head to Toe", "All Cried Out" and how could we not forget "I Wonder If I Take You Home". Formed:1985 Disbanded: 1991 Lisa Velez's last namewas forgotten after the single "I Wonder If I Take You Home" elevated Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam into the national spotlight. Her voice had the perfect mix of uncertainty, irony, and edge, while Full Force's production was state-of-the-art for the time. There was also a fine ballad on the album, "All Cried Out," presenting Lisa Lisa's vulnerable side, and is arguably still her finest performance. Lisa Lisa and company eventually earned a platinum album and were on their way. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide Based in Brooklyn, vocalist Lisa Lisa (born Lisa Velez) and her supporting band, Cult Jam (Mike Hughes and Alex "Spanador" Moseley), were one of the most consistent dance-pop/R&B groups of the mid-'80s. Hughes and Mosley were also members of Full Force, the funk group that performed and produced the majority of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's albums. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam recorded their debut single, "I Wonder if I Take You Home," soon after forming in 1985, releasing it as an independent single. The group quickly signed to Columbia Records, which re-released the single; it climbed into the R&B Top Ten and the U.K. Top 20. The group amassed a number of hit songs throughout the '80s, yet by the end of the decade their success had begun to dry up; they disbanded after 1991's Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen. Lisa Lisa embarked on a solo career, releasing the commercially unsuccessful LL 77 in 1993. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
theryugobuddy
I've listened to Tenacious D's CD alot lately--I'd call it classic rock comedy. These guys can play and they really rock--incredibly funny parody of classic rock in their arrangements and lyrics. Dave Grohl plays the drums--The Dust Brothers spun some knobs-- The immature, sophomoric and mostly not-very-funny humor in between betrays the truly original satire in the songs. Great guitar album--
RichardP
Sheryl Crow, The C'Mon America Tour, concert DVD, DD5.1. Recorded July 2003. 22 songs, including all the hits. Almost all performance footage, little filler. It seemed to start a bit subdued, but increased in energy, and ends two hours later with a wild (and perfect) cover of Led Zeppelin's "Been a long time since I rocked and rolled..." (I know that's not the name of that song). I have never heard such precision in a live performance. It almost seems as if it was "tape-enhanced" in some way because neither she nor any band member missed a single note, vocal or instrumental, but it clearly was not lipsync'ed. She has a very powerful voice, and my goodness, she fills those stars-and-stripes pants nicely. Sound mix is fair, good 3-channel spread across front, mainly crowd noise in surrounds; sound fidelity is very good. I rented this from NetFlix. Good lord it's more addicting than crack cocaine smothered in nicotine and dipped in chocolate... Killswitch Engage "The End of Heartache" - heavymetal CD that alternates between truly blistering metal to melodic emo.

He dispensed with the plectrum and developed a thumb-picking style, played octave and chordal passages with the fluency and nuance of single lines, and organized these astounding techniques in solos of daring detail and sustained shape. Wes Montgomery died suddenly of a heart attack in 1968. He left behind a legacy that included changing the guitar's place in popular culture. He most likely did not set out to do this, it just happened as a by-product of his very accessible talent. For the jazz guitarist, he changed the course and direction of jazz guitar evolution and left an unsurpassed musical legacy. Greg's pick's: Midnight Mood, Tequila and Tequila (Alternative Take) Great guitar .... Great Jazz..... Wes may have died over 37 years ago but his music will live on in the hearts of those who have come to know his unique style of Jazz.
