sunburnwilly
Sounds like it's time to pop the tops on the Belles , pull out the spare Hereseys , and take the Dean G challenge . I haven't had crow in awhile , but am prepared to eat my share . Actualy if you prepare it right crow isn't so bad , tastes kinda like spotted owl . [Y]My AA's are on their way to Dean . Will sunburnwilly eat crow ? Stay tuned !
Spkrdctr
Dr. Who, I've been down the road that you are attempting... pointing out how little the RF-7s use in current capability at 4 watts. It is a waste of time. I just agree to disagree with the need for 400wpc. Good luck spreading the message.....[]

MrMcGoo
Folks, it's not the 400 watts that you need as much as you need an amp that can play in the linear zone of its output devices. The big amps have linear output as impedance varies. You can hear the improvement in sound quality. A good tube amp of 60 watts with 4 ohm and 2 ohm taps would work as well or better. I would never advocate that you run a big amp near its limit on RF-7s. You would damage both your hearing and the RF-7s. I do not know where to get replacement ears. Deafness and tinnitus should be avoided. Bill

When you're pushing the amp hard, you'll notice some loss in the low end because the amp isn't capable of supplying the current for long enough - with the RF-7's it just happens earlier (a little over 3dB earlier to be exact). But yes, having two woofers in parallel causes every impendance to drop in half...so if the speaker was a one driver design, you would have a minimum impedance of 5.6 ohms, which isn't uncommon for an 8ohm driver. The impedance of a driver is actually a function of a few variables so it is going to depend on the T/S parameters of the driver needed to achieve the design goals. I'm not sure if it's an actual trend, but it seems the wider the frequency range drivers have lower dips in the impedance (like the RF-7 woofers that go from 30Hz to 2kHz). Btw, does anyone know precisely where the dip occurs? I would assume somewhere in the Edited December 13, 2023 by Paulc35 Old thread

True, I didn't even look at the post date. It came up in a search. My bad.
