D-MAN
I ran across these pics of the Jensen Tri-flex/Ultra-flex cabinet interiors of a BL-250 cabinet. Dylan, that looks like the Decware version? DM
D-MAN
Interior - seems strange that the semi-circle cutout would be necessary... Also look at the thickness of the braces in the port slots! Sheesh! DM

Dylan, that looks like the Decware version? DM I have to say they are not the prettiest speaker I have ever seen but the way the bass horn preforms it does not matter what they look like to me (30 hz flat ). Not to slam my khorns but at 30 HZ they are probably down 10 db. I have seen others cover the drivers with fabric. I can't wait to get started. D-MAN
1950's Jensen plans for a free-standing Scoop horn, somewhat like the Decware double-driver version. DM

Dylanl
My only concern is that my rooms will be able to handle the huge bass wave that comes out of these. I have heard you need a min. 24' x 24' room. Something I don't have.

Dylanl
I think that is an Altec corner horn isn't it? I wouldn't post that here it is VOODO!

D-MAN
Nuther. Does that look like an 18" woofer to you? The cabinet proportions are such that I am thinking that is an 18. These pics come from a Russian website. DM
jwc
Nice. Bass reflex guys. I ran some nimbers on that Onken 360 cabinet. The total internal volume excluding the wood for braces and ports is 11.92 cubic feet. Man....that is close to my dbb which is about 12.3 cubic feet. The total port volume of the Onken is 1.14 cubic feet. The dbb's was 0.78. The Onken is 1 inch thick wood (or 2.5 cm's). A beast and I bet heavy. the way the ports are designed, it would actually be a way easier build than my dbb's. I'm gonna run some numbers tonight with different drivers. I know the Onken was for an Altec driver, but hey, lets see what it can do with a new driver. jc
DrWho
Be sure to check out the Eminence Magnum drivers...they model up extremely well (and have a good polar response up to 500Hz too). Btw, I think that design would benefit from putting the woofer closer to the floor...what is that, 3 feet in the air? talk about major suck out centered around 90Hz. jwc
D-man, I'm surprised, pleased and bummed at the same time. I haven't had much luck with an 18 inch driver or 2 12" in that cabinet. Will work on it. HOWEVER, works nicely for two 15 inch woofers. These examples are woofers in parallel with no filter. All examples in Onken except the one of the two K33's in my dbb. Damn. Notice how good the Klipsch K33's look in that Onken! Loose a little spl but the the tuning gets close to 35Hz. Also a Flat response! DrWho
Is that how they model in that cabinet? I didn't try. Seems a smaller cabient and slightly higher tuning point would be better for the 18" drivers. The 15" LF magnum in a 6.5 cubic foot cabinet tuned to 37Hz models almost identical to the K-33 in an 8 cubic foot box tuned to 40Hz (with the same max SPL as each other). In fact, the 15LF would make a great drop in replacement for the cornwall if one wanted to achieve a flat response in that cabinet. Oh btw, the magnum has less group delay []
Andy W
(edit: fixed pixture) Hmmm.... all this talk makes me want to post a pic of what I'm building... It's uses the 18" driver from the 884 theater sub, but about half the internal volume for "portability". Box is very similar in size to the LaScala, measuring 24"x24"x36" (the biggest box that I could possibly make to fit two of them in the back of my Jeep Cherokee). I'll eventually make a pair. They are to go with my KI-362's. The carpenters square is for reference. Tuning is ~28Hz. []
Marvel
Okay... I found this Fane design. It looks a lot like an LS with a longer, bigger horn. I'm only posting a small copy of this. I have one about twice the size. Bruce
