New system continues to improve!

Excellent question Danny, however this rack was given to me by my good buddy who is Manager of a Dillards Department store loading dock. It was used for merchandise display and he had taken it home for his wife to keep shoes of all things on. When he remodeled their bedroom/bath and gave here a 16' X 16' walk in closet he said that if I wanted it that I could have it and I knew immediately what I was going to do with it. One day several weeks back we were talking about it and he told me that when he took it home they threw out (Garbaged) about 2 dozen more of these full rack systems which come with 9 of the shelf units each. I could have gone into business! HaHa

The main rails in the back are 2" round thick wall tubes with notches cut into them to receive dog ears that are on the shelf end plates. The shelves are just screwed into the shelf plates.

On the back of the main tubes are 4 extension fingers that have U-Channels welded to them. The U-Channels drop down onto (Not sure if you can see them in the photo) a solid steel bar that is 1/2" thick and 2" wide X 24" long, one 1/4 way down and one 1/4 way up on the main tubes. I have the 2 steel bars butterfly mollied to the back wall.

Not wanting the weight of my gear to pull it off the wall I did the fat daddy test on it before any gear went on. That test consisted of my big 230lb butt sitting on the second shelf up for 2 hours while I read stereo rags[:)]

Sure wish I could have had all his dicarded racks now!!

Thanks for asking and have a good one[:D]

The VK-P3 is Solid State only and I'm pretty sure Victor has not designed a plug and play valve phono card yet! I have a BAT VK-3i and VK-P5 valve phono stage which was/is one of the 2 stand alone valve phono stages they offer but an excellent unit I might add.

I'd be surprised if he could design an internal tube phono card, given the limited available space in the VK-3i's chassis. Judging from the website pics, his phono stages have 10 tubes and lots of other circuitry.

I recently picked up a Joule Electra preamp with an internal phono stage, and the phono part is even larger than the linestage part -- 6 tubes vs. only 4, and big enough to displace the power supply to a separate chassis, whereas it's all on one chassis for the line stage model.

Right you are Larry, have not heard from you since Hope! I think what most people will find is that any valve amp with valve phono stage has lots more real estate taken up by the valve phono stage than the amp section itself if it's a good one.

You are also correct in that both the BAT VK-P5 and P10 have 10 tubes each (4 6922s, 2 6SN7s and 4 6C45s) unless you go SE Super Pak with the 6H30 super tube.

I think I would look for a used VK-P5 before going with the Solid State board on a VK-3 but that is only my opinion and we all know about those[:o]

That made my day thanks.

I really like that set up.

I'm thinking about put my amps on stands that sit on the floor. Looking at your setup I was thinking I could put my pre and CDP on shelves mounted on the wall. This way i don't need to buy longer IC.

I really like the setup. Gives you more floor space.

Thanks again for the laugh.

Seti is the real joker here NOSValves as he knows first hand my listening room is only 8 1/2 feet wide!

I plan on (W/WAF) putting my Scally's in our living room as the mains on my HT system. Of course I do have an idea of some other items I'm going to pick up to run them in a 2 channel setup but once I have them parted out they will be house puppy's from that point on.

I have been wanting to put together a flea setup with them from the time I knew I was going to get them. This will probably make many cringe on this forum but I have this crazy Idea I can run my (Dare I say it) MiniPod straight into one of those Zvex imP amps at 1 watt per side at 12 Ohms! If a guy can be driving a pair of 98db monitors with good room filling sound surely I can crank them on 104db[:D]

I can't wait to show people listening the power and source[:o] If it fails to drive them there is always my BAT VK-200[;)]

Here is a shot of my babies courtesy of Mr. Cuemanaz (Many Thanks Todd)[:D]
