Which Surrounds for my Forte's

I am in the planning stages to build a new HT and will be using my current Forte's in the front with a KLF-C7 center, the system will be 7.1. I have been looking at either R-35's for the sides and rears or finding some used Hersey's. I will be using my current Hsu VTF-2 sub or an upgrade. All will be processed by a Denon 4802.

Any suggestions for what would be best for the sides and rears??

Hi Dave,

You don't specify which Forte's you have. The best rear speakers will be more Forte's of the same type (either I or II).

The Forte I has an exponential mid horn with a K-53 driver. The Heresy II has an exponential mid horn with a K-53 driver.

The Forte II has a tractix horn with a K-61 mid driver. The Quartet has a tractix with a K-61 mid driver.

Thanks Bill:

I have the Forte I's. I also forgot to mention that the room size will be approx. 16x27x9 give or take a bit. The room will be 50% movies and 50% music, a place where I can listen to my classic rock and not have my 10yr old to tell me to "turn it down". I also have a pair of KSF 10.5's but I do not believe they would match up well with what I am planning.

Your system is already mismatched adding some Reference Series sound sprayers in the back is not the direction I would recommend going in.

Find some KG1's, KG2's, KG2.2's, KG2.5's, KG3's, or KG4's for the rear depending on what you can squeeze in. Obvisouly another pair of Forte's would be the ideal choice if you have the room for them.

You should sell the KLF-C7 and get the matching Academy for your Forte's while pricey and tough to find certainly very well worth the price once you hear a properly timbre matched front soundstage.

Having a perfectly timbre matched speaker system can yield more benefits than equipment and source upgrades.

do not sell the KLF-C7

this is a great center speaker, keep it

I am running Forte II's with the KLF-C7

no, they (Forte II's and KLF-C7) do not match exactly but it does sound great

I use Hersey's and KSP-S6 for rears

( leave the S6's running and switch over to Hersey for concerts or DVD-Audio )

Thanks for the replys. I am now leaning toward Hersey's in the back and hopefully on the sides too, I need to be sure they do not get in the way for headroom as you try to get to the couches. The KSF 10.5's I have extra will probably definetly need to find a new home, if anyone is interested drop me an email and I will get pics etc.

I hope to start construction in the next 2 weeks and have it finished by June 1st. I will be posting the entire process on the AVS forum and look forward to any suggestions and/or criticisms when I start.

Give this a look:

This is what I did with my side surround Heresies. I also built shelves that put the rears "upside down" (woofer on top) about a foot from the ceiling for my surround backs. Give me a shout back if you want pix of those. FYI I am 5'10" and my ceilings in my HT are just under 8' I can just walk under the side surrounds mounted in the pix on the link above.
