charlieboy
Hit a few thrift stores I have not been to in mabye 5-6 months. Well there was a lot of records I had not seen. I weeded through and what do ya' know. I stumbled upon around 30 Mercury Living Presence LP's and a half dozen or so RCA Living Stereo LP's in tip-top shape. I know these blue books like Goldmine and such are just basic strarting points but in the condition these LP's are in the book is coming up around 4-5 hundred dollars worth so far. I knew they would be of value in that condition but I was suprised. Today was half off day so I got them at 50 cents a piece. I also stopped at a yard sale a saw a thrashed out console for 5 bucks. I brought it home and pulled out a totally working Manavox 6v6 amp. It uses 2 6v6GT tubes per side along with a 12ax7 per side. Tubes are dates 35th week 1960. The console also has 2 15" woofers and a few mids and tweets per side that look to be maybe Jensen's with alnico's.

charlieboy
Well seeing as I have probably spent that in gas the last 5-6 months I'm lucky to break even, but It sure is fun to find some nice records once in a while. I just clean them up on the VPI and put them in nice new poly sleeves and listen to them and file them away. I have been lucky. Last week I found some NM- copies of around 10 old Les Paul albums and 3 VG+++ copies of some Verve stuff. I love my vinyl!!

ranjith
nice score charlieboy! I vaguely remember seeing a beat up one of these in a garage sale like a year ago but back then I didn't have a lot of knowledge about audio and hence just looked at them with curiosity. I remember the guy telling me "these tubes you see? they glow when warm" and I just sort of made a surprise face and left with some CDs. Now after a year of reading around I wish I had taken them for $
jt1stcav
Dammit man, that's an excellent score (just the LPs alone was worth the trip)! Reminds me of my only console find at our local Goodwill...in a back corner I stumble across a nice walnut console (don't recall if it was a Magnavox or a Motorola) and I immediately search the back for a tube amp. Some SOB already got to whatever amp was in there and ripped it out, leaving only the cut tolex(?) connector lying on the cabinet's base...[:@]
Duke Spinner
they didn't have "Molex" connectors back then ... just a cord cap w/ pins
jt1stcav
On my bro's '62 Magnavox single-ended 6BQ5 two WPC amplifier, he taped over the connector to keep cat hair/dust out...I assumed it was a "molex" connector ("tolex" is that black vinyl-like covering over most guitar amps and PA monitors/sub enclosures...duh, stupid me)! fini
Maybe you're thinking "Bolex"...?
jt1stcav
Naw...I was thinking more of "Rolex"...(my dad bought a '67 Explorer just like this one; even wore it to 'Nam...sold it in '95 for a grand, scratches and all)!
fini
Man, why am I thinking of you as Bruce Willis and your Dad as Christopher Walken...?
capo72
Fini, good call. That's my all time favorite movie. Jeremy
