thecoffeeguy
After reading a ton about receivers, amps, preamps/processors, I am seriously considering the following setup: Outlaw Model 970 Preamp/Processor Outlaw Model 7075 7 Channel amp To go with: (4) R 2650-C 6.5" Ceiling mounted speakers (1) RC-10 Center channel (1)RC-8 Sub Gives me the option to upgrade speakers down the road if I choose. If this is too much,I was going to go with a HK AVR receiver. Thanks.

thecoffeeguy
Overboard, Overkill, too much, too big..... these are all terms I am not familiar with I got a kick out of that. I'm assuming this would be none of the above?

thecoffeeguy
I guess my concern more than anything was, could my speakers handle it? Looking at the specs of my speakers, they seem to be able to handle 50watts continous and 200watts max (still learning jargon as far as continous...think I can figure out 'max'). The amp on this is 75watts, so should be more than enough. I also found this link: http://www.avrev.com/equip/outlaw_970_7075/index.html Sounds incredibly enticing. Considerably more than the $500 A/V I was considering. Since im new, is there any comparrison when talking about a A/V receiver compared to seperates? As far as quality, sound, performance etc. Do seperates just give that much more?
Joe Shmoe
You should be fine! Too little power is usually the cause for speaker problems, as you turn up the knob (at louder listening levels) , you start to send unclean power to the speakers (distortion). As far as seperates.... if you can afford it, go for it... I would if I could. I believe it does make a difference, as to how much... couldn't say. thecoffeeguy
Thanks, I appreciate it. Just curious as I was thinking about something today. If I posted the dimensions of the room (even gave a floorplan out) of my room that will act as my HT and family room, would that maybe help in determing my power needs? What I mean is, maybe it will determine whether I can go with a pretty good receiver or maybe I need to go with seperates, depending on the shape of the room. Here it is: Sorry it is small: I tried to circle in red, where the speakers are in the room. The sub is in the upper left corner. Thanks

thecoffeeguy
Not sure if anyone can see the picture I posted. But if you click on the picture, it brings it to a web page with the picture slightly larger. I tried to circle in red where the speakers are located in the ceiling. Also, when you look at the picture, my sub is located in the upper left corner. I was thinking of room acoustics and I think the speakers are setup in a good way to bounce of the walls. The only speaker I have questions about is the back left speaker (back right when looking at the picture), due to the open space to the left of the speaker. With the room dynamics, I am thinking i might need to go with something that has alittle more power due to the size of the room; hence, the seperates. Anyone want to comment or share info on room acoustics/dynamics/size? Thanks! thecoffeeguy

thecoffeeguy
Anyone care to share their input on the layout of my HT/Family room? Like I said, I was trying to make sure that I have enough power to push to through the speakers to fill the space. The outlaw seperate setup is probably ideal, but it might be just out of my price range (hurts when you need to buy a builtin media center, 46" TV and a AV setup all at the sametime..!). If the seperates don't work out, I might go with the Outlaw AV receiver. I hear they are very good as well. Just curious about my floorplan though. thx. thecoffeeguy
Cal Blacksmith
I would use the "den" as a HT room! Nice bay window to place your center in! Front projection screen in front of the bay window, black out the windows and setup all the speakers you want, YE-HAW a private theater in your home! Modify the bathroom into a wet/snack bar and you are stylin.... if the room is big enough. It is hard to tell by the drawing how big the room is. OTW it is perfect[]

thecoffeeguy
Well, I did it: I went with the seperate route: outlaw audio 970 preamp/processor outlaw aduio 7075 (7) channel amp I read a review on this setup and it was glowing: Broke down and spent the cash. HT is becoming addicting. I haven't even finished my setup and im trying to figure out how to make things better: Now all I need is my new TV and DVD player and im golden.
