sunnysal
I am thinking about dumping some LPs, I have no idea what is worth real money and what isn´t...is there an online reference? for example, I have a bunch of 60s-70s albums that were hardly ever played...I just grabbed from my shelf 10 of my Bob dylan albums, they start in 1962 and go until the 70´s...how do I know if anything is worth selling? do I use the record codes? all are columbia records and have codes: CS8579, CS8786, CS8905, CS8993, CS9604, KC30290, PC32747 and KCS9825 they all play well, have no scratches though they could use a cleaning I guess...the covers are all intact but have some scuff marks, etc. from 30 years of living... someone clue me in as to how to go about evaluating my record collection from a selling stand point, the grand majority (more than 300) of my LPs are classical, are these potentially worth anything or only the popular music (another 200 LPs)? thanks, tony
charlieboy
It's hard to say. A record is worth what you can get for it on any given day. For instance I have some that the value guides and bluebooks value at say 150-200 in the condition mine are in. I see them sell on Ebay for 25 bucks sometimes. Classical records can be worth money also but it all depends on record label, condition, demand etc... Browse around ebay and search for some of the titles you have that's always a starting point. BTW. I have had some records that were not supposed to be worth a lot mabye 25 bucks or so and have seen them go for up to 400 in one instance. Go figure. www.records
Tony, your best price reference will be eBay. You will just have to sit down and look them up one at a time. Make sure you compare like condition items (covers included). Look them up by artist and album name. If you decide to list them to sell on eBay, keep in mind that some of the values you see are from seasoned Lp sellers who have built up somewhat of a reputation and clientele. You may or may not get a little lesser amount. I suggest you just add analog to your system and enjoy them for a while. You might decide you like listening to them again. You don't have to spend thousands to get very enjoyable analog. Whatever you decide, good luck. Steve
dubai2000
Tony, I am with Steve all the way: keep your LPs. For many years I did not really care much about vinyl playback. Yes, I had a good TT, but somehow the sound never grabbed me the way other people wrote about. Then I went to a local audio show about a year ago, listened to a very costly Koetsu cartridge, noticed what is possible in terms of enjoyment, started reading.....and did some shopping. End of story.....see the vinyl equipment listed below......and now it's the digital gear which isn't used much......funny how things do change. sunnysal
thanks guys...while I have a old TT and a new cartridge, I have not enjoyed LP listening too much...perhaps I need to upgrade equipment, invest in a record cleaner, etc....just have not gotten motivated yet...I´ll fish around ebay to see if the cost/benefit makes sense re: selling...otheriwse they can sit on my shelf another 30 years I guess...regards, tony
Audio Flynn
I would keep them. Firing up the Blueberry with LPs in the past 2 days has been quite rewarding.
Timmikid
After I tried a lp washing machine, my only wish was to upgrade my analog system further and further. It really has a stunning effect. Very rewarding. Keep them! If you decide otherwise make us a list or at least give us your ebay name. []
